NEWT POV:

Damn.

Another day, another greenie.

It's been like this for 2 years and yet the loud beeping still catches me off guard. I look around to see little chuck bouncing around with excitement.

Probably because he won't get called greenie anymore. I scoff at the thought.

I see Alby heading to the large metal trap doors in the middle of the glade. Slightly covering my ears to prevent going deaf I walk after him.

The loud beeping had stopped. Great. Now we wait here for half an hour. I see other gladers talk to each other, discussing on who it will be. Not that it makes much sense because we all don't know who we are. Or who we were once.

I slightly step out of the sweaty and smelly crowd of gladers and sit on the grass. The sun beaming in my eyes from above, squinting, I look around again.

The glade is still interesting, not that well built but it looks decent, trees scattered everywhere along with some small wooden structures leaning against the biggest among them. The doors had already opened many hours before so Minho and the other runners weren't here.

Sighing, I grab a stick on the ground and start poking the vibrant green grass that spreads out nicely underneath me. Some pieces of dirt come flying out as I did so.

About 20 minutes later. A loud metal whir was heard from the metal doors. I stood up, brushing some grass from my pants as I rose. I looked at alby.

You see, Alby is the leader here. He's a total dipwit sometimes and has more klunk than brains. But he makes a good leader. His face didn't show many emotions, I just nodded at him and looked away again.

After a while, Gally called some other strong gladers to pull the large metal chunks up by the small handles positioned at the sides. The quite large crowd of gladers backed off a bit for them to open.

The doors were put down, they slit the crossed steal bars from the top. I wasn't exactly the tallest of them all so all I could hear was loud breathing coming from the box.

The gladers that could see the new greenie were chuckling and laughing and mostly talking klunk about the poor dude.

Alby stepped forward with his beaming voice, telling us to all slim it. It was like a repeating cycle, Alby stepped in the box, greeted the new guy, shook his hand and pulled him up from the box. Nothing new happened in particular. After a while of everyone cackling at the greenie, I saw a boy run out of the crowd.

Damn.

The guy was fast.

I think he only made a few yards before he stumbled over what I guessed was a rock.

And faceplanted.

I snickered, shaking my head. I looked to the side seeing Alby do the same. He nodded at me, I took that as a sign to walk over to the boy.

The guy that was currently slowly sitting up, had dark brown hair, it was short and messy. He had a grey shirt on that clung tightly to his figure, revealing some muscles on his back and shoulders.

I walked along side Alby, stumbling of course with this stupid limp I had.

We reached the guy, I saw him quickly whirring around. He squinted, his eyes flashing to the dark skinned guy that stood in front of me.

The poor greenie was panting, his face plastered with confusion and other emotions I couldn't quite recall.

"Greenie, this is Newt.."

I took that as a sign to step around Alby and face the guy. It seemed like alby had helped him stand up.

"He's in charge when I'm not around"

I felt myself chuckle at that. And I shook my head.

"Good thing you're always around then" I said as I eyed Alby.

"Listen that was some dash ya made earlier, and then for a second I thought ya had the chops to be a runner. 'Till ya face planted" I grinned again. Looking at the new guy.

"Newt give the greenie a tour first"

I looked at Alby as he ordered that.
I then turned back to the brunette, meeting his confused dark brown eyes.

"Let's go greenie"

I gestured for him to follow me, so he did.

"This is the glade, 'm sure Alby already told ya that hm?" I said as I looked at the huge grass covered courtyard with walls surrounding it.

I turned around to see the greenie nodding.

"So greenie, the glade.."

Dinner time. Shuckin' finally.

"-ya go" frypan said as he handed me a delicious meal. It contained beans, potatoes and some pork scattered all over the plate. Smoke steamed up, damn was I hungry.

I looked around for a table I could sit at.

I saw chuck excitedly talking with the greenbean about who knows what, I grinned.

Holding my plate firmly in my right hand I sat down at their table.

"First day greenie" I chuckled as he looked up to me.

"Trust me you'll get used to this all soon."

The guy nodded and I gave him a content smile. As chuck went babbling again over whatever the boy had in mind.

"-will be a bonfire tonight to celebrate"

I heard chuck say, the greenie raised his eyebrows at the smaller boy.

"You comin'?" I heard chuck say as he turned to me.

I scoffed. " 'course I'll be there." I said as I took a bite off of my stuffed fork. Chucks eyes lit up and he smiled. The green bean looked confused again.

"Why are we celebrating?" He asked.

I would be lying if his accent didn't catch me off guard. Most of the gladers here have a British accent. But his voice contained a smooth American one. It was very pleasant and clear to listen to.

"It's your first day here greenie, 'course we'll celebrate that" I gave him another one of my grins.

Dinner started earlier today since a lot of preparation had to be done for the feast. There was it. The nice rumbling of the large stone doors. Minho had returned about half an hour ago. The last time I spotted him was when he discussed something with Alby.

The greenie had raised his eyebrows again and his mouth hung slightly open at the sight of the massive doors closing.

"How is that even possible?" He asked, confusion lacing his voice again.

"I don't even know, the shuckfaces that put us here must be real tough to invent that" I said as I looked at him. Chewing my food.

"What do you mean, put us here? Who did?" He asked as he turned to me, his eyes still somewhat wide.

"I don't know, no one here does" I stood up. Gathering my dishes again as I headed to the kitchen to hand them to frypan.

"Nice meal you guys us there fry"
I shot him a smile and he nodded at me.

I looked back again to see chuck pointing at random gladers, the greenie followed his hand and nodded. Chuck then babbled again. The kid was probably introducing him to everyone.
