The Gun

Hours had passed since Lexi had arrived at the hospital. The waiting room was silent, except for the faint hum of medical equipment and the occasional murmur of voices down the hallway. Every tick of the clock felt like a hammer on her heart, the minutes dragging on as she sat, frozen in fear.

Finally, a doctor emerged from the operating room, his expression somber. Lexi stood up, her legs shaky as she braced herself for the news.

"He's stable," the doctor said, his voice calm but serious. "We've managed to stitch him up, but he's in a coma. His body has suffered a lot of trauma, and right now, we just need to give him time to heal."

The words hit Lexi like a ton of bricks. She felt the room spin as tears welled up in her eyes. Andrew was alive, but he was out cold, and no one knew when—or if—he would wake up.

"Can I see him?" she asked, her voice trembling.

The doctor nodded and led her to Andrew's room. Lexi's heart ached as she saw him lying there, pale and still, hooked up to machines that monitored his every breath. She felt a surge of love and sorrow as she approached his bedside, gently taking his hand in hers.

"Andrew, I'm here," she whispered, tears streaming down her face. "Please, wake up. I can't do this without you."

She sat by his side, not daring to leave him alone. Exhausted, she eventually drifted off to sleep in the chair next to him, her hand still clutching his. The sterile smell of the hospital, the steady beep of the heart monitor, and the weight of her fear lulled her into a restless slumber.

Hours later, in the dead of night, Lexi stirred from her sleep, something cold and hard pressing against her temple. Her eyes fluttered open, and a gasp caught in her throat as she realized what was happening.

A gun. Someone was holding a gun to her head.

Her heart raced, and she slowly turned her head to see the face of the person holding the weapon. Her blood ran cold as she recognized him—it was the doctor who had spoken to her earlier, the same one who had operated on Andrew.

But there was something different in his eyes now, a sinister glint that sent a shiver down her spine.

"Surprised to see me like this?" he whispered, his voice dripping with malice. "I knew Andrew from high school. I've been waiting for years to take him down, and now I finally have the chance."

Lexi's mind raced as she tried to process what was happening. "Why are you doing this?" she asked, her voice shaking.

The doctor's expression twisted with hatred. "Andrew was the popular one, the one everyone admired. Even my own girlfriend. But not me. He ruined my life, and now I'm going to ruin his. I'm going to take everything away from him—starting with you and your unborn children."

Terror gripped Lexi as the doctor's finger tightened on the trigger. She knew she had to do something, anything, to save herself and her babies, but she was paralyzed with fear.

Just as she thought this might be the end, there was a sudden, sharp movement beside her. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Andrew, awake and in obvious pain, but determined. He lunged at the doctor with all the strength he could muster, knocking the gun out of his hand and sending him crashing to the ground.

"Andrew!" Lexi screamed, her heart pounding with a mixture of relief and terror.

But the effort was too much for Andrew. His body gave out, and he collapsed into Lexi's arms, unconscious once more.

Lexi acted quickly, grabbing the gun and throwing it across the room before screaming for help. Within moments, real doctors and nurses rushed in, apprehending the fake doctor and tending to Andrew.

Lexi clung to Andrew, her tears soaking his hospital gown. "Please, stay with me," she whispered desperately as the medical team worked around her. "I need you."

The real doctors assured her they would do everything in their power to stabilize Andrew again. Lexi sat back, holding Andrew's hand as she watched them work, her heart filled with fear and hope.

She had come so close to losing him, and the thought was unbearable. But she knew one thing for certain—she would never leave his side again. Andrew had risked his life to save hers, and now it was her turn to be strong for his sake.
