I had just clocked out of work, and I was in a hurry. if I wanted to make it to the gallery in time. I had my painting all wrapped up in paper and ready to be viewed. There's a chance for my art to get put in their gallery, they've just gotta see it first. I grabbed my things and hurried out to my little black car and threw everything into the back seat. There was a slight sprinkle outside. More misty than rainy like how Gaege said. I started my car and it roared to life. I typed in the place in my gps and realized my phone was low battery, I hope the gps would last at least the way there, I could memorize how to get back. I pull out of the parking lot, and start driving down the road to my dream.
I had the radio going and I was enjoying my misty nighttime drive. Viewing the world as an artist. The drops of rain in the light of the street lights. The yellow glow on the road. I was having a vision for another painting. A rainy setting, the only focus being on the light in the foreground set by a street lamp, and two figures dancing in the rainy street. I glance over at my packaged painting in the front seat, like a proud artist. Just as I was enjoying myself, the rain started to pick up and get heavier. I checked my phone to see its percentage, and it's almost dead. I'm only 10 minutes out. I had another 20 to go with about no directions in the rain. I started to stress. I kept my phone on for as long as it could live so I could pull over and write down where I need to go on extra napkins in my glove box. I find a safe patch of grass to pull over and fetch the pen and napkins to jot down my directions. Fortunately I was able to jot down my location and all of the roads I needed to take before my phone powered off. I looked out into the dark, and into the night without any technological help. Just raw reality. I'd be lying if I said it didn't scare me a bit.
I went to start up my car again but the ignition was being weird, and omitting that same strange familiar noise from before, but the car wouldn't start. I stop for a second, then try to turn the key again but it just didn't start. I started to panic. I throw my napkins into the passenger seat next to my paintings and frantically try to turn the key again. Nothing. If I keep going at this rate I'm sure to flood it. I look out my window into the storm. I need to go out and at least check the hood. I was afraid to leave my safe space inside my car and go out into the cold, rainy night in an unfamiliar place. I hesitate opening the door. I step out into the rain and immediately feel my body temperature drop. I hug myself for warmth to no avail. All that surrounds me is the sound of the rain hitting the pavement. Within a matter of seconds I was soaked. I head around to the front of my car and pop the hood. As soon as I did, smoke started to rise. I'm no mechanic, the inside of my car looked like a bundle of wiring to me, I've got no idea how to fix this. I slam the hood down and head back into the drivers seat of my car, soaking the leather beneath me.
All I know to do right now is break down in tears. My car broke down, my phone died, it's storming out and I've got no idea where I am. And on top of that, I'm never going to make it to the gallery to get my painting viewed, which means I can kiss my dreams goodbye. I rested my forehead on the top of my steering wheel while gripping it tightly. My tears mix with the rain water on my face.
A thought crossed my mind to get out of this situation. I gathered my thoughts and got back out of my car to go to the backseat to grab my crossbody bag. I fill the bag with my phone, my napkins with directions on it, and my car keys after I locked my car. I look in the direction I've driven from and start walking. I had enough courage to carry on and try to find the first neighborhood in proximity. The rain was enjoyable to look at, but not to be in. It was cold unreasonable pressure on my being. One step after another my fear would grow. With each strike of lightning, and with each crash of thunder, and especially with the eerie silence that comes with after.

I come across a familiar neighborhood. I thought finally there could be someone to help me. I started running down the road looking for houses at this time of night with the porch light on, but I can't help that I recognize this place so much. That's when I saw his house. No fucking way I happen to end up in Gaege's neighborhood. I thought he lived right outside the city. Are we just outside of the city? My thoughts were hazy, all I really cared about was his porch light being on. I ran up to the door and slammed my fist against the window of the door for more sound. I take a second to hug myself for warm again. He opened the door.
He looked confused at the wet, crying mess in front of him. Then a look of worry quickly came over his face and he hurried me inside. I stood right at the front door as to not drip all over his floors.
      "Y/n? What the fuck!"
"I'm sorry, but my phone died, the rain picked up, my car broke down and I broke down in it." I muttered through a cold mouth.
"Oh my god don't be sorry, stay right here, I'm gonna get you a towel and dry clothes." He rushed into his hallway. As I waited, and looked around the familiar living room, a little orange creature approached me. I had no idea Gaege had a cat. Its presence calmed me. The cat jumped up onto the coffee table and rolled around on the glass. Gaege came racing back down the hallway with a towel in one hand and some folded up clothes in the other.
"Here, the bathroom is right down that hall there, I'll wait out here." He handed me both items in his hand.
      "Thank you so much, really."
"Yeah you're welcome now go get changed!" He seemed really worried about me. I headed down the hall to the bathroom and locked the door. I immediately changed out of my clothes and put on the ones that Gaege had handed me. He'd handed me his clothes. I was given a dark grey long sleeve that was at least a size or two bigger than me, and a pair of black basketball shorts. I pull the drawstring so the shorts can fit my waist perfectly. I take a look in the mirror, using the towel to dry my hair a little better. Then I take another look in the mirror, but at myself this time. I'm wearing his clothes. Covered in his scent. I bring the neckline of the long sleeve to my nose and breathe. The smell was warm and welcoming. I feel a weight lifted off of my shoulders.
I rip my eyes away from his mirror and back to my wet clothes. I ring them out into the bathtub and drape them over the edge. I then unlock the bathroom door and step out back into the living room. Gaege was there setting up a place for me to sleep on the couch using the same blankets and pillows I used last time. I lift up the sleeves on his shirt to fidget with my fingers. He finishes up setting up the blanket and turns around to face me. It seems like he's stopped in his tracks at the sight of me in his clothing. He sat there, mesmerized. I gave him a look of curiosity.
"I um, I left my clothes draped over your bathtub." I motioned to the bathroom behind me. Gaege snaps out of his gaze.
"Oh, yeah that's fine, that's good." I went over to the coffee table and picked up a hot mug, handing it to me.
"I made you hot chocolate instead of coffee, I'd figure you'd be going to sleep here soon, you must be tired." He put his hands in the pockets of his sweat pants. I took a sip of the hot chocolate. It was actually really good.
"Yeah I am kind of tired, but I'm still worried about my car." I mention, walking over to the couch to take a seat. God I was so sore.  I took another sip of the warm drink.
"Where's your car, I can arrange to get it towed." He pulled out his phone and immediately started looking up a number.
"Well I have the location on one of the soggy napkins in my bag over there," I pointed to my bag by his front door.
"Want me to grab it?" He asked. I nodded in approval. He went to grab my bag, searching through it finding the napkins. Surprisingly they weren't all that wet. Soaked enough to be careful with, but not enough to rip at the touch. He found the location and immediately started dialing to get my car towed, not saying a word besides talking on the phone. I admired him in fascination. He seemed really eager to help me, like he was helping himself in the process.
After a minute of getting things situated, I finished my hot coco and he finishes with his phone call in high spirits.
"So they're going to go get your car and take it to the tow lot, I can take you there in the morning." Gaege smiled, sitting down on the couch next to me. I yawn and set my cup down on the coffee table next to his cat.
"Thank you so much Gaege, really, you've got no idea how much this means to me."
"It's no problem really, so what really happened?" He asked. I thought for a minute.
"Well, I thought my phone battery would last, and I was trying to go get my painting viewed, but now that's never going to happen. Something was bound to fuck everything up." I sighed.
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. Maybe you can email them back explaining what happened, and they'll give you another shot. You never know." God bless Gaege's heart for being so positive. I gave him a look of awe, and a smile. He smiled back and broke eye contact, focusing his attention on his cat on the table. He leaned forward to grab it and give it affection. I watched with a smile on my face.
"This is bug, she's my baby." He said in a voice to cater to her.
"Awe... Hi bug." I spoke softly. He allowed me to pet her in his arms. Her fur was soft, and soothing. He then set her down on the floor. The cat had purposefully rubbed against both of our legs while walking past to disappear into the kitchen. I let out a breathy laugh as I watch her walk away.
"She's cute." I say to him.
"Yeah, she is." He says, making eye contact with me. I suddenly felt that same tension I felt in my studio. And I felt that same feeling I felt at the club, looking into the same leafy green eyes I have before. I could get lost in them. Like getting lost in a forest. He looks like he's studying my eyes as I study his.
"I hope I'm not out of place, but you've got really pretty eyes. They glimmer." He says to me at almost a whisper. I let out a little laugh.
"Probably from all of the rain water." I say in the same tone. You could cut the tension in the room with a knife. I never broke my gaze from his eyes. I watch his eyes flicker from mine, down to my lips, and back up to my eyes. He wants to kiss me. I could feel myself moving closer to him at a glacial pace. He did the same. Closer, and closer, til I could feel his breath on my lips. He hovered there, as if silently asking for my consent. My eyes were focused on his lips being so close to mine, begging to close the gap. So I did. Irrational, sure, but worth it. I move my hands to both sides of his neck, as he moves one of his to my thigh, kissing me back. He was passionate, intimate, melting and deepening the kiss as if this was the last time he was ever going to get his hands on me. I hook my hands around his neck, following his lead. I felt his grip on my thigh slightly tighten then go right back to its lose state. He pulls away for air. I also take a breath.
"Wait," I whisper to him. He opens his eyes and immediately stares into mine.
"You don't think it's stupid? To jeopardize our friendship like this." I worried.
"No, no... I like stupid." He breathes. He goes in to place another kiss on my lips. I kiss him back, but he pulls away again.
"God you look fucking unbelievable in my clothes, but I'd hate to keep you up." His breathy voice makes my butterflies flutter faster.
"Oh please keep me up," I smiled, only half serious.
"I'll see you in the morning." He got up, and started to walk out. "Goodnight," he said to me, turned out the lights and went to his bedroom. I was tempted to follow him, but my drowsiness overtook me. I laid down and got comfortable, covering up with the blanket. I shut my eyes waiting to slip into unconsciousness when I felt a sudden weight on the couch next to me. It was Bug. She had curled up right next to my stomach to go to sleep herself. I allowed it, and drifted off to sleep, along with my new feline friend.
