STEVEN'S SMILE DROPPED AS HE tilted his head at Layla, confused as to what she was talking about. Venus' eyes widened and all she could think was 'what the hell did Marc do now?'
Layla walked up to Steven, "I'm talking to you," She said through gritted teeth.
Venus looked between the pair. Layla's anger was surprisingly contained. A eerily calm demeanour on her face, but there was a fire burning in her eyes at the lack of an answer from Steven. Who looked utterly confused.
"What?" He asked, shaking his head slightly.
"I'm talking to you, Marc!" Layla snapped, shoving his chest.
Venus was about to step in, but stopped herself when she saw Steven's eyes widen before he looked up towards the ceiling. Seconds later he looked back dow, his eyes instantly shifting towards Venus and she automatically knew that she was now looking back at Marc.
He grabbed her hand and Layla's arm, "Come on. Let's go, let's go," He said, his American accent a stark contrast to how his voice sounded merely seconds earlier as he tried to get the two women out of there.
Layla freed herself from his grip, shaking her head, "No."
"We need to go right now," He told her, his hand still tightly wrapped around Venus, trying to pull her along as well.
"Marc, no. No," Layla shook her head, this time she went to grab Marc's arm, stopping him from walking out of the tomb with Venus, "Marc, what happened to my father?" She questioned. Her hard stare boring into him.
"Marc..." Venus said.
His eyes instantly snapped towards her. Eyes softening at the desperate look on her face.
"...If we leave right now – like we need to – do you promise to tell her when we're out?"
Layla looked at Venus in surprise, especially after noticing the look on Marc's face as he looked at the former assassin.
He nodded and turned back to Layla, "I will explain everything. But we need to go. Right now."
Layla shook her head, stepping away from him. Her eyes were filled with angry tears, "Did you kill Abdullah El Faouly?" She asked, violently pressing Marc's chest with her finger.
Venus looked at Marc. Spotting the distressed look in his eyes, as if the ghost of a memory flashed through them.
"Of course not," He said, "Of course I didn't."
Layla watched him. She was silent for a moment as she tried to collect her thoughts before she swallowed hard, "But you were there," She stated in a quiet voice, "You were there."
"I..." Marc muttered, his eyes flicking between the two women as he clearly tried to come up with some sort of lie. His heart breaking in his chest when he felt Venus' hand slip out of his as she stepped closer to Layla, the pair of them staring him down, waiting for the truth to finally come to light.
"Marc?" Venus asked. Sending him a pointed look. The faster he confessed to what happened, the faster they could all get out of this tomb.
"Yeah, you were there," Layla nodded, watching as Marc refused to meet her eye.
He nodded, breathing heavily, "I was there," He said softly, his eyes full of guilt as he looked down, "Yeah, I was there."
Venus let out a breath as she looked at Layla. The confession causing the woman to start to break, her eerily calm composure cracking as a tear slipped past her eye.
