It was a beautiful morning. Nayeon woke up with a smile, greeted by Jeongyeon's diary next to her. She hugged it, gave it a kiss, and whispered to herself,
''I'll make it come true, my love.''
After stretching, she lazily got up and placed the diary in her locker drawer. As she stood in the bathroom doorway, she heard footsteps approaching her room. A maid knocked and asked,
''Ms. Margaret, may I come in?''
Nayeon responded with a sound of acknowledgment, and the maid entered, looking worried and out of breath. Nayeon's mood shifted, and she quickly inquired, ''What's wrong?'' The maid, wiping sweat from her forehead, replied, ''Mr. Arthur had a heart attack.''
Nayeon was frightened and shocked. She ran out of the room, down the stairs, where she saw all the maids rushing towards her granddad's room. Chaos filled the air, and Nayeon's face went pale with panic. Upon entering the room, she found her granddad unconscious on the floor next to a shattered table.
She dropped to her knees, unable to speak, and tried to wake him, checking his pulse nervously as her hand trembled.
''Don't worry, the doctor is here,''Ms. Mun Young's voice brought her back to reality, and a tear rolled down Nayeon's cheek as she saw her aunt in tears.
The doctor hurried to the scene, bringing a sense of calm as the family gathered around granddad. Nayeon sat by his side, clutching his hand tightly, while Jeongyeon remained in her room, unaware of the unfolding situation.
As granddad slowly opened his eyes, he was met with the sight of Nayeon, tears glistening in her eyes. "Why shed tears? I'm alright," Mr. Arthur uttered, attempting to rise but faltering back onto the bed.
Nayeon, with a mix of panic and determination, gently urged him, "Please don't strain yourself. You need to rest." Ms. Mun Young chimed in with a stern tone,
"Mr. Arthur, I've emphasized the importance of your diet, yet you've disregarded my advice!" Nayeon, echoing the concern, added resolutely, "You must commit to a healthy diet moving forward."
A sudden drop in his blood pressure sparked worry. "Are you feeling well?" Nayeon inquired, her concern palpable. With his eyes closed and a hand on his head, Mr. Arthur drew a deep breath, reopening his eyes and motioning for Nayeon's assistance to sit up.
After a brief coughing spell, he requested everyone, save for Margaret, to give him a moment of solitude. Nayeon, on the verge of leaving, hesitated and settled back beside him. "Kyungso, stay as well," he weakly requested, with Kyungso complying, standing by Nayeon's side.
"As both of you can see, I am nearing the end of my journey," he mentioned, amidst a cough.
Nayeon clasped his hand tightly, her voice soft and reassuring, "Please, don't speak like that," a hint of a pout on her lips.
"I want you to get married... quickly," he murmured weakly, catching Nayeon's full attention. Her heart sank, abruptly pulling her back from her fantasies with Jeongyeon.
Releasing her granddad's hand, she glanced at Kyungso, who nodded in agreement. She stared at him in surprise, then turned to Mr. Arthur.
"But it's not even a month yet,"
Nayeon whined. Mr. Arthur reached for her hand once more, expressing, "I'm afraid... I might not see my beautiful granddaughter get married." Nayeon's heart ached; she felt trapped without any other option. Her mind raced, thoughts consumed by Jeongyeon.
"Can you two marry this week, as my heartfelt wish?" he softly asked, gazing into their eyes for an answer. Nayeon felt compelled to agree, her dreams shattered.
