Nazia sat on her bed, lost in thought, as the warmth of the sun peeked through the window. She had just awoken from a deep slumber, her mind racing with plans for the future. The idea of mustering the courage to speak to her parents about studying at a university in Bangkok had been weighing on her mind. As the only child, she was deeply attached to them.
Just as she was gathering her thoughts, a knock on the door broke the silence. "Nazia," her mother, Fatima, called out, "please come down for breakfast, sweetie."
"Coming, Mom," Nazia replied, getting out of bed.
After showering and getting ready, Nazia joined her parents in the dining room. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and scrambled eggs filled the air, making her stomach growl with anticipation.
"Good morning, Dad," Nazia said, taking her seat.
"Good morning, Naz," her dad, Suleman, replied with a warm smile.
Nazia took a deep breath, her heart racing with anticipation. "Mom, Dad, I have something to tell you guys."
Her parents exchanged a curious glance. "We're listening, sweetie," they chimed in unison.
Nazia's hands trembled slightly as she spoke. "I've been thinking about studying BCom Accounting Science in Thailand."
Her mother's brow furrowed. "Why don't you study here, Nazia? We have excellent universities in Johannesburg."
Nazia's eyes locked onto her mother's, her voice filled with determination. "I know, Mom, but I've always dreamed of studying abroad."
Her father, Suleman, leaned forward, his voice laced with concern. "Nazia, will you be okay all alone without us?"
Nazia's face lit up with a reassuring smile. "I promise to visit during semester breaks, and we can video call each other often."
Her parents exchanged a glance, and for a moment, Nazia wondered if she had made a mistake. But then, they nodded in unison, and her mother said, "We trust you, Nazia. We'll support your decision."
Overjoyed, Nazia leapt from her seat and wrapped her arms around her parents, tears of happiness welling up in her eyes.
