MEGAN POV
I've been reflecting on what Elijah mentioned and what Kayl is saying.
I really can't stand Freya for her actions, but I know it's not all her fault, and I can't just go and kill her over it.
I brought her here yesterday because of Kayl; he's the one who got the ball rolling on this whole situation.
But every time Elijah's words pop into my head, I feel this pressure in my chest.
He clearly doesn't want me to harm Freya, and I can appreciate that, even if it's about compassion.
I should just let her go before Kayl arrives.
As I walk over to Freya, I keep my gaze away from her while I work on untying her left wrist.
Her eyes grow wide with hope, and I offer her a reassuring smile. "Don't make noise," I whisper. "I'll get you out of here."
The door to the room slams open, and Kayl storms in, his face a mask of rage.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he roars, his fists clenched at his sides.
My heart skips a beat as I realize the gravity of my mistake.
I have underestimated Kayl's temper.
"I'm not going to hurt her," I say, my voice steady despite the fear clawing at my insides.
"You're wrong about Selene, and you're wrong about this."
Kayl's eyes narrow, and he takes a menacing step forward.
"You're going to regret this, Megan," he hisses.
"You're going to regret ever setting foot in this place."
The room grows smaller, the walls closing in as the air grows thick with the promise of violence.
I know I have to act fast.
With a swift move, I reach into my pocket and pull out my phone, quickly texting Selene and Elijah.
"Help. we are in danger." I hope the message is clear enough.
Kayl's hand shoots out, grabbing my wrist before I can press send.
He wrenches the phone from my grip and throws it across the room, where it shatters against the wall.
"You think you're so clever," he sneers. "But you're just like her. You're going to learn to keep your mouth shut."
I feel the cold metal of the chair against my back as Kayl shoves me down, his hands moving to tie me up like he did with Freya.
Panic bubbles up inside me, but I force myself to remain calm.
I can't let him win.
I have to find a way to save us both.
"You don't have to do this," I say, my voice measured. "Let her go, and we can figure this out together."
Kayl's only response is a derisive laugh.
"You think I'm going to let some cheating whore ruin my life?" he spits. "This is the only way to fix things. You should thank me for sparing you the same fate."
My mind races as the ropes tighten around my wrists.
I have to get a message to Selene or Elijah, have to somehow warn them.
The only thing I can do is stall for time.
"What do you mean, fix things?" I ask, my voice shaking slightly.
Kayl leans in, his breath hot and sour in my face.
"You think I don't know that you were obsessed with Selene? The way you looked at her, the secret meetings, the lies. It's disgusting." His grip on the rope tightens, his knuckles white with rage. "But I'll deal with you after I take care of Selene."
My eyes widen in horror.
"I loved her, not you."
"I know, and that's why you both whores of her gonna die with her."
This is all a twisted delusion in Kayl's mind.
It's true that I lied to Kayl that Selene wanted me when in reality, I wanted her, so I left Kayl.
"I thought you loved me," I insist. "and you would never do that to me. You're just hurting everyone."
Kayl steps back, his expression contemplative.
"Maybe you're right, but i just used you to reach Selene" he says, pacing the room.
"but she don't give fuck about you but she do about Freya. Selene and you betrayed me, and you're going to pay the price."
My thoughts race as I watch him.
I have to use his doubt to my advantage. "Kayl, if you ever loved me, you won't do this. You'll let us go, and we'll help you get the help you need."
For a moment, I think I see a flicker of doubt in his eyes. But then his expression hardens.
"You're just trying to save yourself," he sneers. "But it's too late for that."
The sound of a car grows louder outside, piercing the tense silence of the room.
My heart leaps with hope.
They are going to be okay.
Kayl's eyes widen in panic, and he whips out his phone to send a warning text to Selene.
"You think you're so smart," he says, his voice cold. "But you're just like all the others."
I feel the knot in my stomach tighten as I watch him type.
"Kayl, please," I beg. "Don't do this."
