Chapter 40: The City Of Whirlpools Fairwell

The sage fell to his knees, It brought Tsunade great satisfaction seeing him so. Naruto had won, but Tsunade made sure he would suffer for his crimes. His body shook, convulsing with an internal pain that pulsed through his mind and nerves. Everyone was silent now, Konan's hand crept to her chest, still registering what had happened. In the crowd, the villagers began to lowly whisper and murmur, many of the Hyuga clansmen turning their gaze aside, feeling the deep despair of a love one passing on. Naruto looked down at his hands, one of Hinata's boots had slipped off in the struggle to try free her from the chains of death, he reached out a shaking hand, caressing the boot as if she were still in it. His breathing became louder and ragged, his heart beating at an incredibly slow pace, each beat like the hand slamming on a prison door, was it Hinata ? He no longer could register his surroundings, the world around him now irrelevant and meaningless.

"N..Naruto ..." Konan whispered, tears now welling up in the corner of her eyes. She started forth, Sasori held her arm back, shaking his head.

"I...I don't think it's safe just yet. Give him time, Konan" The puppeteer murmured, grief faint but still noticeable in his voice.

Naruto clutched at his chest, her last words the final fuse that was burning away at his sanity 'we love you' is what she had said, she had not died alone, his child perished along with her. His family torn from him, his heart torn away with them, as if one of the chains had plucked out the now useless organ. He leaned over, taking the boot and cradling it to his chest, rocking back and forth as if it were the child he would have fathered in a years time. With each rock forward his voice echoed out, a low moaning wail that grew in volume with each second, climbing still until he was on his hands and knees unintelligibly screaming at the top of his lungs, his scream trailing off into a husky whimper, many of Naruto's former comrades looked away, despite their hatred for him now, some wiped at their eyes nervously. Naruto's face collided with the ground, again and again as he wailed louder and louder still, his fists striking the stage, splintering and tear it apart, as if digging for Hinata. His ceased all movement, his glare turning to the dying Hokage.

Tsunade coughed "What is your world now ? Without her you have lost it"

In an instant he was atop her, his mouth inches from her eyes "BRING HER BACK !" He roared

She shook her head "Deeds done ... She's not coming back, you can't even use Edo Tensei on her either. Her soul is sealed away, beyond your grasp"

Konan ran to his side, slipping from Sasori's grasp. She heard him cry out, his arms grabbing for her.

"NO KONAN DON'T !"

she ignored him and embraced Naruto, locking his bloody hands to his side with her embrace. Her tears falling onto his shoulders as she wept over him, her lips quivering, her determination as solid as stone. Naruto jerked and hissed, trying to land another blow on the woman who had taken all from him. Konan only wept and whispered

"It's fine Naruto ... It's okay ... It's okay ...I'm here f..for you" She cried, his struggling loosened

She turned his body to her, he gripped onto her tight. Burying his face into her shoulder, sobbing loudly against her. She delicately ran her hands through his hair, biting back her cries and coldly glaring at Tsunade's ruined body. She lifted the down gazed Sage, walking him away to somewhere more private.
