Smoke billowed from the Hogwarts express as students milled about with their family, preparing to say goodbye.
Lyra dreaded goodbyes, she preferred 'see you laters' and 'i'll see you soons'. Thankfully, one of her two parents would be coming with her. Her mother, Aurora Sinistra, taught Astronomy at Hogwarts, a core class for all students. With a strict yet understanding personality, Professor Sinistra was well-liked among Lyra's classmates. And if you asked her, Lyra would say the same about her upbringing.Growing up in Ottery St. Catchpole, Lyra enjoyed her time at home in the fields, oftentimes stargazing with her mother and father at night and practicing her scales in the daytime. Nearby her house were the Lovegoods and the Weasleys, two families Lyra spent a multitude of weekends with as she aged. Her oldest friends, Luna Lovegood and Ron Weasley, often took turns with Lyra on whose house to hang out at.
Luna and Lyra enjoyed gardening and relaxing by the pond that was equidistant between their homes.
Ron and Lyra tended to be more adventurous. Hiking through nearby forests, playing pranks on each other, and staying up all night to watch comedies.
Needless to say, Lyra was a happy girl. That's why when she did have to say goodbye to her father, she still wore a smile on her face regardless of the sorrow.
"I'm going to miss you, Songbird," Lyra's father, Hercule, said while pulling his daughter into a hug and stroking her long, brunette hair.
"I know, dad," Lyra responded, somewhat muffled due to being squished against his chest, "I'll miss you too. I promise to write every week."
"Good," Hercule responded as he pulled away from his daughter go check his watch. The Hogwarts express let out a loud whistle alerting its departure would occur soon.
"It's time to go," Lyra's mother said urgently as she grabbed her daughter's shoulder to give it a light squeeze, "I'll see you when you get there."
Lyra smiled at her mother, excitement beginning to blossom as she took in the thoughts of beginning her fourth year.
"Okay, mom, see you there," Lyra gave them both one last hug before turning on her heel, grabbing her trunk, carry-on, and caged owl, Musa, and began her short trek to the scarlet train's entrance.

Lyra walked along the corridors of the train, passing compartment after compartment as she searched for her friends.
After what felt like fifteen minutes of searching, she saw a flash of flaming red hair. She felt relief flood through her at the sight of him, quickening her pace.
