Chapter 1

I was running as fast as I could while I was being chased by the police. I ducked into a nearby house and shut the door behind me before I crouched down near the window as I watched the policemen checking everywhere for me.

When I saw that the cost was clear, I sighed and collapsed onto the floor as I leaned on the wall, “Who the heck are you?!” A tall man said as he stared at me with a mug cup in hand.

I quickly rushed over to him and covered his mouth with my hands, “Over here! I heard something!” A policeman shouted from outside, “Shoot!” I whispered as I heard the police’s boots stomping towards the door.

The boy grabbed my arm, his cold hand sending shivers down my spine as he led me towards a bedroom. Running towards a walk-in closet, he pushed me inside, “Hey! What was that for?” I whisper shouted before he closed the door and left.

A few seconds later, I heard a knock on the door downstairs, “Police! Open up!” Shoot! I thought as I heard people walking up the stairs and opening the door for the room I was in, “See there’s no one here now. may you please leave.”

A deep voice said as the owner, who I’m guessing to be the man from before, stood in front of the door of my hiding spot. “Ah, so it seems. Sorry for disturbing you, Mr. Blake. Have a nice evening.” I heard a woman say as she left.

When everyone had left, the guy who shoved me in the closet came back and gave me a hand to get out. “They’ve left, and I doubt they will come back I…” He said, staring at the door then to me. He had striking black hair, which ombreyed into a fiery red colour at the tips around his head.

His eyes were a bright red, when you get a good look at him he’s very handsome, “Hey! Have you heard what I just said?” he said, looking a tiny bit annoyed, “ummmm, sorry about that. May you please repeat?” I said, scratching the back of my neck.

He just stared at me for a while  and sighed, “Why were the police chasing you?” I sighed and started fidgeting with my fingers, “It’s perfectly fine if you don’t want to tell me but,” he said as he placed his hands on my shoulders, “if I’m going to help you I need to know what you did.”

I dropped my hands to my sides as I looked at the floor, “That’s the thing, I didn’t do anything. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and I saw something I don’t think I was supposed to see. They slaughtered her,” I said as I felt a teardrop fall down my cheek. Before I knew it, I was having  a full-blown meltdown.

He pulled me in for a hug, and I just held on tight to his sweater as my face was implanted into his chest. I suddenly felt dizzy, and the world went dark.

The next morning, I woke up in bed with a migraine. I tried to slowly get off of the bed, but once I stood up, I felt dizzy and fell back onto the bed, “Hey, take it easy.” The boy said as he made the pillow sit up and lean on the headboard.

He then took my hand and held my back as he helped me lean on the pillow. He handed me the medicine that was stationed on the bedside table, and I took the tablets as he gave me the glass of water that was next to the medicine,

“How are you feeling?” he asked as he placed his hand on my back.

“A bit better. Thanks for the medicine.” I said as I finished drinking the water,

“No problem. By the way, I didn’t quite catch your name.”  “Riley,” I said as I placed the cup back onto the table,

“Nice to meet you Riley, I’m Lucian. Now, would you mind telling me what happened last night, if you’re okay with it?”

I took a deep breath and told him what had happened.
