FLASHBACK

“I was walking to my mother’s bakery, when I saw two shady looking guys in suits; one of them had blood all over their white shirt. Judging by the scenario, I decided to hide at the side of a nearby building.

I saw another person coming out of the bakery dragging a big black bag. He stopped next to the other guys and opened the bag, Inside i saw….”

The harsh reality started to sink in, “Riley, what did you see?”

I felt like there was a big lump in my throat, “My mom. She was in the bag, she looked pale and lifeless, and there was a bullet hole right in the middle of her forehead.

When I saw her, I couldn’t believe what I had seen and I ended up screaming. They heard me and they started chasing me.

Some were in police uniforms, even though I could tell they weren’t police. It was just a cover up, in case regular citizens walk by, but since it was in the night not a lot of people were in the streets.

I couldn’t understand why they were chasing me but my first instinct was to run. So I ran, they tried chasing me but I managed to leave a reasonable gap between me and them.

I was running for about 10 minutes, until I decided to duck into your house, then you found me and you know what happened after that.”

End of flashback

I can’t believe she’s gone, mom, you were the only parent I had. I felt hot tears trickling down my face as I thought about my memories with her.

Suddenly Lucian wrapped  one arm around my waist  and his other hand to support my head as I leaned on his chest.

I cried my eyeballs out and I blamed everyone for what had happened, but as I complained Lucian just held me tighter. Is it strange that I didn’t want him to ever let go?

When I stopped complaining, he got a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the teardrops from my eyes, “you’re done?” he said as he wiped a tear from the side of my cheek, I nodded my head in agreement, as I felt too embarrassed to speak.

He stared at me and then laughed, “There is no need to be embarrassed. It’s good to vent from time to time. If you need someone to talk to, I’m always here.” He said as he hugged me tighter.

“Thanks Lucian.”  I said as I released almost all of the tension in my body.
“Okay, now that you’ve calmed down a bit, let’s analyze the situation.

So you can’t go back to your place because they probably know where you live, and since these guys are probably some type of black operation, they will have people scouting the town, looking for you.” He said as he paced the room,

“Okay, I suppose you have a solution for this?” I said,

“Yeah, you could crash with me until this all blows down.” He said as he walked over to the window.

“Dang it! Hide, they’re back.” He said as he hurried towards me and opened this secret room behind his dresser.

“You’ll be safe here, and make sure you are far away from this door when I close it. Understand?” he said as he held my hand.

I just shook my head in agreement as he let go of me and the door automatically went back in place.

As I was waiting for the police to leave, I decided to check out the room I was in; it was a gigantic library with a glass roof.

I traced my hand along the spines of the books as I walked passed them. One particular book  caught my eye, it was green and looked like it had real vines on it.

As I removed it from the shelf I felt a gush of wind blow past me(even though I’m pretty sure they’re no windows in this room).

I traced my hand over the engraved words, “EVERCREST” I’ve seen this word somewhere- “It’s quite an interesting read,” I turned around swiftly to find an old man with a cane, “I think the best story in there is about the fallen king.”

He said as he took a seat on the arm chair that was placed near the bookshelf.

I looked at him strangely and i guess he figured out what I was thinking

“Ah, I haven’t introduced myself, I’m Marvin Blake, Lucian’s grandfather. This book is a particularly special one, you may not believe it but that book has been in our family for over a century.”

He then reached out to me and pointed at the book, and as I handed it to him I felt a spark run through my hand.

He then run his fingers along the vines and smiled, “I remember this one story that Lucian always enjoyed, it was called ‘the cursed prince’ he would tell me to read it to him every night,” he then laughed a little.

“He was such an odd child.” He said with a big smile on his face.

“Well I hope you’ve enjoyed embarrassing me, but story telling is over. Come on Riley, we should finish our discussion.” Lucian said as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me away.

“Okay, see you later sir.” I said as Lucian dragged me out the door.

When we were in Lucian’s room he just sighed and sat down on the bed next to me, “Just forget everything my granddad said okay?” he said with slight desperation in his eyes, “Sure why not.”

I said as I placed my bare hand on him, out of nowhere, I saw police sirens and then a white room and Lucian was strapped in a chair ,as they sliced his wrists and gallons of blood where drawn from him into tons of  drip bags. Suddenly I snapped back to reality

“Hey, are you okay?” Lucian said as he held my shoulder, “Yeah, I was just thinking.” I lied, no one outside my family knows about my visions, well except my deadbeat dad and his side of the family, other than that, no one knows.

If I remember correctly, I was 4 when they first started. I was holding hands with my sister, when I saw a vision of her getting hit by a car  on our way to school.
At the time, I shook my head and thought I was being silly. When the car from my vision appeared and my sister let go of my hand, I immediately yanked her hand back so hard we fell on the sidewalk as the car then passed us immediately after.

My sister hugged me and thanked me for saving her life. When we reached home that day, I told mom about my vision and she looked ecstatic and told me that I had the sight.

She then pulled out a blue aquamarine book from her bookshelf and told me a story that she used to tell me almost every night. The story of the Guardians.
