Ethan sank to the floor, the cold tiles pressing against his skin, and let the tears flow. He felt so alone, so lost, and so desperate for relief. The bottle in his hand felt like his only lifeline, even though he knew deep down it wasn't the answer.

Ethan's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and memories. He remembered a conversation he had with his mom not long before she passed away. She had told him about the dark days she faced and how she managed to find the strength to keep going, even when it seemed impossible.

"Ethan," his mom had said, "there's always hope, even when you can't see it. Sometimes you just need to reach out for help."

The words echoed in Ethan's mind as he sat on the cold bathroom floor. He looked at the bottle in his hand, then at his phone lying on the counter. He knew he needed to make a choice.

With a deep breath, Ethan put the bottle back in the cabinet. He picked up his phone and, with trembling fingers, dialed his mom's best friend Merida's number. As the phone rang, he felt a small spark of hope. Maybe, just maybe, he could find the strength to keep going too.

As Merida answered the call, Ethan took a deep breath and tried to steady his voice. "Hi, Merida. It's Ethan," he said, his voice wavering slightly. "I... I really need someone to talk to. Things have been really tough lately, and I remembered what Mom used to say about reaching out for help. Can you talk for a bit?"

Merida's voice was warm and reassuring. "Of course, Ethan. I'm here for you. What's been going on?"

Ethan felt a wave of relief wash over him as he began to open up. "I've just been feeling really overwhelmed and lost. It's like everything is too much, and I don't know how to handle it. I miss Mom so much, and I don't know how to keep going without her."

Merida listened patiently, offering words of comfort and understanding. "Ethan, it's okay to feel this way. Your mom was so proud of you, and she would want you to find the strength to keep going. You're not alone, and I'm here to help you through this."

After a brief pause, Merida added, "How about I come pick you up for the day? We can go somewhere quiet and talk. Sometimes a change of scenery helps."

Ethan felt a glimmer of hope. "That sounds really nice, Merida. Thank you."

As Ethan hung up the phone, he felt a mix of relief and urgency. Merida had said she'd be there in 10 minutes to pick him up. He looked around his room, which was in complete disarray, and realized he needed to clean it up quickly.

Ethan got to work, picking up clothes and toys, putting everything back in its place. He then rushed to the bathroom to take a quick shower, scrubbing away the dirt and grime from the day. After drying off, he changed into clean clothes and took a deep breath.

He glanced at himself in the mirror and saw the black eye. He didn't want Merida to see it and ask questions, so he grabbed a pair of sunglasses and put them on. He hoped it would be enough to hide the bruise.

Just as he finished, he heard a car pull up outside. Merida was here. Ethan took one last look around his now-clean room, adjusted his sunglasses, and headed out to meet her.

Ethan walked outside and saw Merida waiting in her car. He took a deep breath, adjusted his sunglasses once more, and headed towards her. As he opened the car door and got in, Merida greeted him with a warm smile.

"Hey, Ethan! It's so good to see you," she said cheerfully.

"Hey, Merida. Thanks for picking me up," Ethan replied, trying to sound casual.

"No problem at all. How have you been?" Merida asked as she started driving.

Ethan shrugged, "I've been okay, just trying to keep busy. How about you?"

Merida nodded, "Same here. Work's been hectic, but I've been managing. It's been a while since we caught up properly."

They continued to chat, catching up on each other's lives as they drove to their destination. Ethan felt a sense of comfort being with Merida, knowing he had someone to talk to.

Ethan turned to Merida with a curious look. "So, where are we headed?" he asked.

Merida grinned mischievously. "It's a surprise," she said, her eyes twinkling. "You'll see when we get there."

Ethan chuckled, feeling a mix of excitement and curiosity. "Alright, I guess I'll just have to wait and see!"

Ethan and Merida continued to catch up, sharing stories and laughter as they drove along. Ethan found himself lost in the conversation, enjoying the familiar comfort of Merida's company.

As they chatted, Ethan started to notice familiar landmarks passing by. Ethan tried to keep his cool, but a nagging feeling of familiarity crept in. He couldn't shake the sense that he knew where they were going, yet he wasn't entirely sure. The element of surprise kept him on his toes, adding an extra layer of excitement to their adventure.

Soon after, they pulled up to a familiar trail. Ethan's eyes lit up in recognition. "Wait, is this...?" he started.

Merida nodded with a smile. "Yep! It's the trail your mom and I used to take you on when you were little. Thought it would be fun to revisit some old memories."

Ethan's heart warmed at the thought. "Wow, this brings back so many memories. Thank you, Merida."
