"So, you're really getting married?" Dylan's laughter erupted, filling the room with an infectious energy. Riley, nestled comfortably on his lap, finally seemed to settle down, her usual chatter replaced by a soft silence.
"No, she's not," Riley mumbled, her voice muffled against Dylan's chest, as if seeking refuge from the conversation. I realized I had spoken too soon.
"She's totally against this marriage," I sighed, the weight of the situation pressing down on me.
"So you're actually going through with it?" Dylan prodded, his curiosity piqued.
"I don't want to," I admitted, the truth hanging heavy in the air.
Dylan's eyes widened with mock disbelief. "This is the most unpredictable news in history. Never in a hundred years would I have guessed I'd hear Sofia and marriage in the same sentence." He threw his head back and laughed heartily, the sound resonating with disbelief.
"Right? She's honestly the least likely person to tie the knot first," Savanna chimed in, her laughter joining the chorus, creating a lively atmosphere around us.
"Picture her coming home after a long day at work, and she happily says, 'Hey honey, I'm back!'" Dylan bursts into laughter, a rich, infectious sound that fills the air, while Savanna joins in, her giggles ringing like bells. The two of them are caught in a moment of pure joy, the kind that makes me wonder how we haven't been asked to leave the cafe yet, given our raucous laughter echoing around us.
"Yeah, never in hell will I say that." I deadpan.
"Oh, I'm sorry Mrs. I'm-getting-married, did I offend you?" Dylan cackles. Savanna is losing her breath by now.
"Oh shut it. I don't plan on getting married anyway." I roll my eyes.
"Why you don't like your fiancé." Dylan teases.
"Why did I ever invite you here," I grumble.
Dylan snickers and he tries his best to hold in a laugh. I should've known he'd act like this, he'd take any opportunity to annoy and tease me. Why? I have no idea. Ever since we met 3 years ago, we've never gotten along. He and Savanna got along just fine as they both found joy in teasing me.
"Ok on a serious note. What if your dad forces you into getting married?" Savanna asks regaining her composure.
"He would never." I shake my head.
"But what if he does?" She questions.
"He would never force me to do something." I glare.
"Sure." She shrugs. Her face clearly showed she did not believe me though.
"It's true!" I insist.
"I never said it wasn't?" She raises her eyebrow.
"You didn't say it was!" I argue.
