I watch his face change from curiosity, to mischief, to the most important of all; joy. Joy in the fact that he was finally going to see his kid after over a year. I was so happy to be able to help him in this.

During our trip, I wanted to give him a small insight of what my life has been like for the last few years. I look towards Matthew contemplating giving him a warning or letting him find out on his own. I will let him be surprised. "Pack an overnight bag. We can stay at my place in the city. All I ask is that we do not judge my apartment." I say sounding at first commanding and then becoming more and more meak.

He salutes and jokingly marches off to his room, I can't help but giggle at him. I shake my head and text my dad.

Me: I'm stealing Matt for today and tomorrow. I'm taking him to his daughter

Coach: Who's driving? Where are you two going? Are you two going to practice how grand baby's are made?

Me: I'm driving, we are going into the city and then staying the night at my place. I will let you know when we leave.

Coach: So you two are going to practice, I always knew you were my favorite child. Making sure I have a grand baby before I kick the bucket.

Me: I love you dad, teach them boys how it's done cuz I'm staying for a while
Me: also, I'm ur only child so of course I'm the favorite

Coach: ok fine, be careful though kiddo

I close out of my conversation with my dad to Nancy, Darc's foster mom.

Me: You won't believe this but our little girl, I found her dad.

Nancy: Is this going to push court off? Do you want me to contact the social worker for you?

Me: He doesn't know that I'm the one adopting her. And I'll text after I get to the city. Is it ok with you if we come by tomorrow and take her out to breakfast and to the park?

Nancy: Of course, dear. Lemme know when you guys make it home and when you guys are headed over tomorrow morning.

Me: Thank you again for watching her while I take care of my dad and sort some things out.

I didn't bother grabbing a bag considering I still had clothes at my apartment. As I grabbed my phone charger and hey dudes. "Shani are you ready?" I hear an excited Matthew yell.

I move towards my door and am met by Matthew holding his bag with a grin. I knew he was excited but I was super worried that he would judge me for who I had to become to afford my lifestyle and education.

"Come on let's go, sweetie." I say jokingly patting his head and walking out of my room. Making sure to close the door behind me. He giggles at me. I stop and turn towards him, "Promise me you're not going to freak out. You are going to meet one or two of my friends and you will see a switch flip. Please don't freak out."

I can tell he's studying my face after my plead, "Shani, it can't be that bad. You're not only basically my sister," he stops as his eyes go wide. I burst out laughing and turn around grabbing my keys as the I open the front door and head to my car.

Matthew is blabbering behind trying to recover from calling me his sister after we basically confessed our feelings but haven't really acted on any of it. "Matthew I understood what you meant, but come on get your shit in my car and we will get on the road." I say from inside of my car.

He chuckled and finally climbed in, put his seat belt on. As we drove out of the city, I let the radio play my spiral of thoughts flood my mind. The drive was basically a flat straight road that went directly to the city with quite a few stop signs but, it was about a two hour drive away.
