Chapter 2

The blue and purple marks stained all over his body like graffiti on a wall as tears  slowly crept down his cheeks. Philip had already left around an hour ago after finishing his 'work' and instead of the pain burning all throughout his body, he felt nothing. Nothing at all. He wondered that maybe this was some type of karma for something he has been doing; that in fact of Philip always being in the wrong, he, Alex, instead was in the wrong and Philip was just showing him that. Yes, that must be it, but.. no. Could it.. Alex didn't know anymore.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Could it be? Is he back? Back to hurt him again? Alex felt himself tremble as he suddenly thought the atmosphere around him became much more colder.

"Alex, it's me, Elijah! Can I come in?"

A wave of relief washed over Alex as he quickly threw on some appropriate clothes and rushed over to open the door.

"Hello Eli! What's up?"

"Nothing much, just wanna hang out with my number one cousin!" he exclaimed, walking in and closing the door behind him. "So, do you want to play cards?"

"You know I'd never refuse!" Alex told him, as he grabbed the card box and sat down on the bed where Elijah soon joined him. They started playing for a while, the atmosphere becoming tense for each of them. What would Elijah put next? What does Alex have? When suddenly...

"I WIN!" Alex cheered, "HA! HA!"

Elijah, with his usual sore loser attitude, tackled him down on the bed, and he saw...

"Alex, your forehead.. it has a massive cut! Why didn't you say anything?"

"I.."

"Nevermind that! Let me heal that injury.." Elijah said, in an older brother tone, as he tied a rubber band on Mars' front hair so he could see the injury more clearly. Elijah, then, dipped a type of medicine liquid in some cotton, and gently smoothed it across the cut. Alex hissed at that but sucked it up, knowing it was best for him.

"So, how did this happen?" Elijah asked him.

"I fell.. and uh.. hit my head against the wall!"

Elijah looked at him as though he didn't believe him but he knew that Alex wouldn't admit anything so, he brushed it off and changed the topic, as he started wrapping the bandage around his head.

"So, what did my dad want to speak to you about?"

"Ahh, he wants me to give a speech to the people on the summer welcoming ceremony.."

"Lucky you, wonder why he won't let me do that."

"Maybe because last time, you started yapping about turtles?"

"Oi! Turtles deserve equal right!"

"Yeah, but that doesn't have to be everything you discuss!"

"Oh well.."

...

"How did you do it?"

"Do what, Alex?"

"Speak in front of all those people? Create a speech? I can't help but get so anxious and nauseous when I think of it.. I haven't got a clue of what I am going to say and all those eyes.. only looking at me! I'm so.. I don't know if I can do this."

Elijah laughed at that, which surprised Alex, and complimented him, saying that if anyone can do it, it's him.

"You're also really intelligent, Alex! Easily more than me and many kids even older than you! Dude, you are the people's favourite for a reason, if anything, they will be over the moon to hear your speech! You think too much, I know you will be fine and brilliant out there!"

"Thanks Elijah.." Alex told him, smiling, as Elijah pulled one final tug on his bandage to secure it around his head, "You really don't know how much that means to me."

"No problem! If you need anybody to talk to, about anything, just know that you can spill the beans to me, all right?"

Alex was caught off guard by what he said but laughed in reply and comforted him that he would do so.

"Well, I better get planning! A speech isn't going to write itself! See you around, Elijah!" Alex waved off, grabbing his notebook and pen.

"You aren't going to write here?"

"Nah, I need some fresh air; could get me some fresh ideas."

"Oh, all right, see you later!"

As Alex left, Elijah couldn't help but still fear for Alex. Alex, unlike Elijah, is not at all clumsy, and walks this palace with great honour and care. To Elijah, when he saw the injury, it seemed more like someone had hit him. Alex was never one to express his sorrows and fears to anyone; always bottling them up, which left Elijah to worry even more.

As he was walking to his chamber, he bumped into Teressa, his lovely fiancé.

"Hello, Elijah, my dear!" she greeted, with a soft smile on her face, "How are you?"

"I am well, my love. Though, I am troubled.. I fear for Alex, for I believe that he has been hurt by someone.. however, he refuses to tell me what the truth is." Elijah spilled out to her. Teressa usually had good advice and though it was clear to Elijah that Alex nor Teressa liked each other very much, he hoped his fiancé would put that hatred outside, and help.

"You're probably overthinking it," she says, plainly and annoyed, "Or he might just be doing it for attention.."

The glass had fallen on to the floor and cracked, Elijah fumed at what she said. He was practically red in the face and smoke was burning out of his nose.

"God Teressa!" he snapped, "You really can't get over your silly little rivalry with him to even feel a slight bit of concern or fear for him! I knew talking to you about this was a bad idea!" and with that Elijah stormed off.

"I only want what's best for you, Elijah! You know that!" Teressa called but it was no use, her voice was just an empty echo behind him, it didn't matter.

Elijah's fear was bubbling over, he didn't know what else to do. Alex would never tell him, nor accept his help. He was too stubborn!

Elijah was now face to face with the doors of the throne room.

He knew who to tell.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well! A little bit of announcements!

I might delete my Iris book; I feel so lost in it and bored. I might start an X arc instead, like X coming back or something similar. To add on, I know this book is going quite slow but this is a slow burn (kind of) so if you don't like really long, in depth books; this just might not be for you!

Additionally, I have listened to probably the most beautiful song ever: 'Please don't cry for your daughters, Eve'; I might just base Teressa (also known as Theia slightly off it. Not exactly but kind of. You'll see!

Well, say goodbye to the Iris book and hello to this one!

Signing off,
Pirate Elvrinda💗
