Yeonjun arrived at school early again.
His steps dragging as he made his way to his usual spot in the classroom. He slumped into his desk and buried his head in his folded arms, trying to hide from the lingering effects of the alcohol from the previous night.
Soobin, who was his usual early self, entered the classroom and was momentarily cheered by the sight of Yeonjun there. It had been a while since they'd had a moment alone, and Soobin's heart lifted with the hope of reconnecting.
But as Soobin drew closer, he was taken aback by the smell of alcohol that clung to Yeonjun. His smile faltered, replaced by concern.
"Seriously?" Soobin said, his voice edged with disbelief. "Alcohol— dude, what's going on?"
Yeonjun lifted his head slowly, blinking blearily. The alcohol had clearly left its mark; his eyes were red-rimmed and his movements sluggish. "Why are you so loud?" Yeonjun mumbled, his words slightly slurred. "Just let me take a break."
Soobin's expression hardened, his worry deepening. "A break? You're coming to school reeking of alcohol. Are you insane?"
Yeonjun's lips curled into a half-hearted, tipsy grin. "And what if I am?" he shot back, his voice carrying a hint of defiance.
"Maybe I like it. Maybe I just wanted to get away from all this crap."
Soobin's frustration bubbled over. "This isn't a healthy way to deal with things. You're pushing everyone away, and it's breaking my heart to see you like this."
Yeonjun squinted at Soobin, trying to focus but struggling. "Oh, so you care? That's new." He laughed dryly, smiling, though it didn't reach his eyes. "You know, maybe— maybe I don't want to be healthy right now. Maybe I just want to get through the day without everything being so damn heavy."
Soobin's heart ached at Yeonjun's words. He could see through the alcohol-fueled bravado and sensed the vulnerability beneath. "I'm here for you, Yeonjun. But you have to let me in. Drinking won't fix things—it'll just make them worse."
Yeonjun rolled his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to clear the fog in his mind. "Yeah, sure. I'll think about it." He didn't meet Soobin's gaze, his eyes falling to the desk.
As the classroom began to fill with other students, the moment between them grew tense. Soobin took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "Just... think about what I said, okay? I'm not going anywhere."
Yeonjun scoffed. "Sure, you won't."
That simple hesitation made the taller boy's chest sting. He left Yeonjun to go to his seat, taking a last glance at the boy.

'BAM'
The sound startled Yeonjun, who had his head buried in his arms, trying to muffle the rustling and the growing noise of students entering the classroom.
Yeonjun looked up groggily. Taehyun stood by his desk, a look of irritation on his face as he slammed a bottle of hangover remedy onto the table with more force than necessary. The liquid sloshed around inside, making a loud clinking noise.
Taehyun's glare was hard as steel. "Yeah, Soobin told me about it," he said, his voice low but laced with frustration. "So get your shit together, Yeonjun. This isn't a joke."
Yeonjun, still feeling the fog of the previous night's drinking, tried to focus on Taehyun's words. He stole a glance at Soobin, who was watching from a short distance with a worried expression. Soobin's eyes met Yeonjun's, conveying a mix of concern and frustration.
"Don't blame him. He's not at fault here'." Taehyun continued, his tone sharp. "You think drinking yourself to death is going to fix anything? You're messing things up for yourself, and it's got to stop. I'm not letting you keep going down this path."
Yeonjun's eyes dropped to the table, unable to fully meet Taehyun's intense stare. "I—just needed to get away from everything," Yeonjun muttered, his voice a mix of guilt and defensiveness.
Taehyun didn't soften his stance. "But this isn't the answer. Yeonjun. It's only going to make things worse."
"I've known you since we were— what? Four? Three? I know opening up to your new friend might be difficult... but me? You know you can trust me, Jun." Taehyun sigh softly, looking at the other boy with sad eyes. "Don't hurt yourself like this, if you need time, I'll give you that. But this? I can't let you do all these stuff without trying to do something about it."
The classroom was starting to fill up, and Yeonjun felt the weight of Taehyun's words pressing down on him. He nodded slowly, feeling a pang of guilt as he realized how far he'd let things spiral out of control.
Taehyun's gaze softened and he took a seat at his chair beside Yeonjun. "Drink up." He scooted the drink closer to Yeonjun. "You reeked of soju." He snickered and chuckled a bit.
Yeonjun lifted his eyebrows. He took a sniff at himself. He grunted as he opened the hangover remedy and chugged it down.
"Thanks, Hyun..."
"Hey. We're your friends, just remember that, kay?" Taehyun patted Yeonjun's shoulder lightly. "And seriously man." He reached to his pocket and handed Yeonjun his pack of mint gums.
Damn, the alcohol reeks huh?
