The sound of soft music filled the room, weaving through the quiet as Yeonjun sat at his desk, pencil in hand. He was focused on his drawing, carefully shading in the lines of a familiar face. The motion was rhythmic, soothing, but his mind kept drifting to something else—or rather, someone else.
Soobin.
His thoughts wandered back to the kiss they'd shared. It was soft, tentative, and entirely unexpected. Yet, even now, thinking about it made his heart race in that strange, exhilarating way that only comes with young love. He caught himself smiling, feeling warmth bloom in his chest. Ahh, young love, he thought, a mix of excitement and nervousness swirling inside him.
He glanced over at the window, hoping to see a familiar figure climbing up, as he'd done so many nights before.
Yeonjun had placed a ladder just outside the window earlier that date. It wasn't much—just a small gesture—but it made his own heart flutter as he imagined Soobin's reaction.
Maybe it'll make things easier for him, Yeonjun had thought, trying to brush off how much it actually meant to him.
As if on cue, a soft tapping on the window brought him out of his thoughts. His heart leapt as he saw Soobin's head pop into view, a wide grin spreading across his face as he climbed to Yeonjun's room.
"You put up a ladder?" he asked, his voice light with amusement. "Youuu dooo like having me aroounndd."
Yeonjun rolled his eyes, trying to play it cool even when his rosy cheeks say otherwise. "Shut up," he mumbled.
Soobin chuckled, kicking off his shoes and padding over to Yeonjun's bed. He flopped down onto it, bouncing a little as he settled in. "This makes sneaking in so much easier. I'm not complaining."
Yeonjun put down his pencil, turning to face him. "Just don't be too loud. My mom still doesn't know about your little... visits."
Soobin's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Well, if you're worried about getting caught, maybe you should've thought twice about the ladder."
"Yeah, well— I didn't want you to break your neck one of these days," Yeonjun shot back, his tone light but affectionate.
They fell into a comfortable silence, the only sound being the music playing softly in the background. Yeonjun sat on the edge of the bed, his gaze drifting to his sketchbook, still open on the desk. He hesitated, feeling a bit exposed, knowing Soobin might be curious about what he was drawing.
Soobin's eyes caught the direction of his gaze, and he tilted his head slightly, noticing the open sketchbook. "Is that what you've been working on?" he asked, his voice soft, a hint of curiosity there.
Yeonjun bit his lip, his fingers fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. He wasn't sure if he wanted to show it to Soobin. It was... personal, in a way that made his heart race with both anticipation and fear.
But there was something about the way Soobin looked at him, patient and kind, that made him want to share it. Slowly, he got up and grabbed the sketchbook, bringing it over to Soobin without a word.
Soobin took the sketchbook from him, his fingers brushing Yeonjun's briefly. He looked down at the drawing, and his breath caught in his throat. It was a simple sketch, nothing overly detailed, but there was something about it—something that made it seem to glow, almost as if it was illuminated with colors despite being monochrome.
In the drawing, it was Soobin, smiling, his dimples deep and his eyes bright. It was him, captured in a way he hadn't expected, a version of himself that was both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
"You... really see me like this?" Soobin murmured, a soft, awed tone in his voice, not quite able to put his thoughts into words.
Yeonjun felt a bit embarrassed now, seeing Soobin's reaction. He tried to play it off, nudging Soobin's arm. "What, surprised that you're actually good-looking?"
Soobin glanced up at him, his face heating up slightly. "It's not that... I just... I didn't know you thought of me like this."
Yeonjun smirked, trying to lighten the mood. "Do you know your ears turn red first before your face does when you're embarrassed?"
Soobin's hand shot up to cover his ears instinctively. "They do not!" he whined, his tone rising slightly.
Yeonjun laughed softly, leaning in a little closer. "They totally do. You're like an open book, Soobin."
Soobin pouted, his face flushing even more as he realized Yeonjun was right. He reached out, lightly shoving Yeonjun's shoulder in retaliation. "You're so mean, you know that?"
Yeonjun just grinned, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "I'm just telling the truth."
They bickered softly, the playful banter filling the room with warmth. Eventually, their teasing led to them tumbling onto the bed, Soobin ending up on top of Yeonjun. They paused, their laughter dying down as they found themselves staring at each other, faces only inches apart. (a.n. What a cliché translation)
The air between them seemed to pause, the playful mood replaced by something more intimate. Soobin's gaze dropped to Yeonjun's lips, he gulped. "Can I...?" Soobin started to ask, his voice barely above a whisper.
But before he could finish, Yeonjun leaned up and closed the gap between them, capturing Soobin's lips in a kiss. It was bolder than he usually was, but there was something about the moment, something about Soobin, that made him want to take that leap.
The kiss was soft but filled with so much emotion. Yeonjun placed his hands on Soobin's cheeks, tilting his head slightly as Soobin bit lightly on his lip.
Soobin moved and laid down beside Yeonjun, without leaving the other's lips. They giggled through the kiss, breaking apart briefly only to lean in again, their noses brushing as they drown themselves in each other's warm embrace.
When they finally pulled away, Soobin's face was flushed, his dimples showing as he smiled down at Yeonjun. "You really put up a ladder for me," he murmured, a hint of disbelief in his voice.
Yeonjun's eyes couldn't stop looking at every features of Soobin's face. He couldn't help but smile back, feeling lighter than he had in a long time. "Yeah," he admitted softly. "I guess I like having you around."
Soobin's eyes softened, and he reached out, threading his fingers through Yeonjun's. "I like being around you too," he whispered.
They stayed like that for a while, lying on the bed with their fingers intertwined, simply enjoying each other's presence. It was quiet, peaceful, and in that moment, everything felt right.
The world outside could wait—right now, all that mattered was them.
