'If honesty means telling you the truth, well I'm still in love with you,"

                         -Still by Niall Horan

Alice Lawrence had been sitting in her own kitchen the entire morning revisiting the events of last night from memory, still in shock as a result of her near-death experience.

Gilbert Blythe had also been sitting in his kitchen all morning although, for a separate reason, Alice was late. Her lateness came as no surprise considering her track record, however, Gilbert couldn't help but worry about her. He knew the events of last night had frightened her even if she wouldn't admit to it.

At half 9 after 2 hours of waiting Gilbert decided he would head to the Lawrence residence himself.

He quickly threw on his red checked jacket and flat cap and grabbed his spare black coat and scarf to bring along with him for the girl.

"I'm heading to Allie's, Father, I'll be back later," He said as he placed another blanket on his father's bed.

"Don't worry about me Gilbert, I'll be fine," The older man smiled, "Tell Alice I said hello,"

The boy nodded and smiled at his father as he left the room closing the door gently behind him and then sprinting out the front door, down the porch and through the piles of leaves in the front garden, the crisp October air hitting his face as he began his walk to Alice's house.

-----

Alice had been broken away from her thoughts by the loud knock at the door, confused as she wasn't expecting anyone she looked up at the clock above the front door and realised the time.

A second knock came before the girl sprung from her seat at the kitchen table to answer the door.

She removed the chain from it and slowly opened the door peering around the edge.

When Gilbert spotted the girl's eyes from behind the crack in the door he began to laugh.

As soon as she heard the echo of laughter on the porch she realised who was outside.

"Blythe!"

Gilbert's laughter faded leaving his famous grin on his face as he looked at the distressed girl.

She had answered the door in her nightgown with her wild wavy hair travelling down her shoulders, tangled and twisted from the night before.

"Allie I know you like to make a statement but bedclothes to go rebuild the Gillis' house is a unique move, even for you,"

Alice rolled her eyes at the boy's teasing and opened the door wider to let him into the kitchen.

"I forgot the time, I didn't know it was so late,"

"I assumed that much, yes," His laugh returned as he sat down at the kitchen table.

"I'm going to get dressed, I promise I'll be quick," She said a smile beginning to cross her face.

"For some reason, I don't believe you!" Gilbert shouted after her retreating figure, her laughs echoing down the hallway and up the stairs.

Gilbert's eyes scanned the kitchen he hadn't been in in months.

Alice didn't like being left alone in the farmhouse so she often stayed with the Blythes however when she didn't she kept herself busy at home, cleaning the house until it was spotless, baking treats to bring over to the Blythes or tending to the farm, something that is mainly considered a mans job but she enjoyed it the most.

He noticed how clean the kitchen looked and noted it must have meant something was bothering her.

Alice didn't really like talking about her feelings and she hadn't talked about her feelings surrounding her father's death since the day of his funeral, 5 years prior, however, if anyone could get her to talk it would be Gilbert Blythe.
