The front door swings open, and we hear Dad's familiar voice booming through the house. "Daddy's home!"
I jump up from my seat at the table, and the rest of the family follows suit. Even Reggie, who's holding little Marcus in his arms, stands up to greet him.
"Honey, you're back." Mom rushes forward, wrapping her arms around Dad as we all join in, forming a big family hug. The warmth and love in the room are almost tangible, and for a moment, everything feels perfect.
As we pull away from the hug, Dad and Mom exchange a glance that only they understand. Then, right there in the middle of the living room, they start kissing—an intense, passionate kiss that leaves the rest of us slightly stunned.
Reggie, feeling uncomfortable, heads to the living room with little Marcus in his arms. He carefully places the toddler on the sofa beside him, then sits down and picks up the Xbox controller, focusing on his game again.
Megan and I exchange a glance and clear our throats, trying to bring them back to the reality that they aren't alone.
"All right, we get it," Mike finally interjects, trying to break the awkwardness. "There are other people in the room, you know?"
Christine smiles and steps closer to Dad. "Are you feeling good, Marcus?" she asks, her tone light but concerned.
Dad pulls away from Mom, his face glowing with a mixture of love and something else—something almost euphoric. "I've never felt better in my life," he admits, a broad smile spreading across his face.
Mom's expression softens as she rubs his back affectionately. "Oh, Marcus, I've missed you so much. But you need to get some rest."
Dad shakes his head, his eyes bright with energy. "No, baby, I need you. Just let me get some electrolytes." He suddenly dashes off to the kitchen, leaving us all standing there, bewildered.
As soon as he's out of earshot, we huddle together, speaking in hushed tones.
"So, what's going on with my dad?" Megan asks, her voice tinged with curiosity.
Mike scratches his beard, glancing toward the kitchen. "Well, he was on the roof. Naked."
Megan's eyebrows rise in disbelief, her expression reflecting her astonishment.
"Now he thinks he's invincible," I add, and Mike nods in agreement.
"And he said, 'I have a stupid baby soul, with no penis,'" Mike continues, and we all exchange bewildered looks.
Just then, Dad's voice booms from the kitchen, "Hey, Reggie!"
Reggie, who's engrossed in his Xbox game with little Marcus seated beside him, quickly looks up. "Yes, sir?"
