The coronation was about to take place, Ben had revealed to Mal his knowledge of the love spell she had cast on him and that had been broken by the water of the enchanted lake. But despite this, Ben had true feelings for Maleficent's daughter and smiled at her as he walked down the aisle towards his parents, the Fairy Godmother who was waiting for him.
While the ceremony was proceeding properly, according to the ancient traditions, in Mal's mind, a whirlwind of violent emotions danced like leaves in the wind. Happiness and remorse intertwined, creating a vortex of thoughts that revealed themselves like pages of a book leafed through by destiny. The emotions, powerfully palpable, confused the clarity of reasoning, like a thin fog that envelops the clarity of the next steps. He knew what he had to do, everything was clear in his thoughts but the action and the doing were not as clear, confusing the clear contours of his mind.
The cloud of smoke that enveloped her numbed her senses, her muscles frozen and rigid the opposite of the pupils that darted from Ben to the white wand that was now in the Fairy's hand.
The hypnotic state she had fallen into was abruptly and violently brought back to reality.
The wand that was previously in the Fairy's hand was gone. Jane, in front of her, held the wand high, screaming and making jets of light and sparks come out of the tip of the wand.
Mal didn't understand what she was screaming, she didn't even know how she was supposed to behave. Her eyes saw without seeing, she was immersed in darkness, without thoughts and without emotions, everything blocked in the immobile ice.
She didn't remember anything, she didn't know how she had done it but she found herself with the wand in her hand, the Beast and Belle looked at her with fear while her soul slowly tore itself in two halves, between love and fear on one side and duty and banality on the other. Her friends joined her shortly after <let's go Mal...now we can get our revenge> Carlos and Jay said in chorus
Evie at her side was holding out a hand with wide eyes as if they wanted to say "the time has come to fulfill the task that was entrusted to us. We can show our parents how much we are truly worth"
The first half of her soul of a deep purple color wanted to run away, far away towards the island and then towards the whole world at the cost of leaving the other half of her soul there in that room. The half of a bright green instead wanted to run to Ben and hug him, she wanted to study and give the wand back to the Fairy. The forces that pulled her towards two opposite directions were equal and cancelled each other out, not letting her move a single step.
<Mal...> Evie whispered to her, her hand stretched out towards her and came closer again, urging her to come to her.
<Mal...> the same whisper but coming from Ben's mouth < give me that wand Mal and everything will be fine, you don't have to do this>
<Ben you don't understand if we don't do this...> finally her voice found its way out
<No, I don't understand. Here no one can do anything to you, here you are safe you don't have to submit to your parents' wishes anymore>
Mal's mind lit up... if that was the truth. She did what they wanted only because she was afraid of them, of the big bad guys on the island, of their parents. She did all this out of fear and because she wanted to give them satisfaction, but what was the price? Did she want this at the cost of losing that feeling that didn't make her heart beat with adrenaline but with the joy of doing what she felt most without fear of repercussions?
Her mother's satisfaction wouldn't have come anyway, she would have patted her on the shoulder and then continued to criticize her every time she made a misstep.
And them? She looked at Ben, the Fairy, the Beast and Belle, what will become of them? No, she didn't want that ending, she would write her story and it would be an ending worthy of the Auradon fairy tales.
Now she knew what she had to do but as soon as she opened her mouth to say all that, a green smoke insinuated itself under the church door which swung open with a chilling laugh.
<Good, good, good finally free> Maleficent entered the hall with a determined step.
No. How had she managed to get out, why had she come out now, what had happened? Of course, Jane with the wand, the ray must have hit the island. Fantastic, luck was right against them. She turned just as she glimpsed Ben's face, she mustn't hurt him, she mustn't have the wand, she had to stop her mother or she would lose what her heart wanted. Now she understood that it wasn't her soul that was divided. The tear she had felt had been generated by her heart and her mind reaching for two different endings. She had chosen her heart.
<Mother...>
<My dear child, you were good, just as I expected from my daughter, at least you succeeded in one thing, go ahead and give me the wand> said Maleficent getting closer and closer looking at the frightened crowd with pride.
<N...n...no mother>
Maleficent stopped with wide eyes < Ah... I see... what do you want in return? Being princess of Auradon is not enough for you, is it? You are ambitious like your mother and that's fine you will have a castle all your own... is that okay? >
<No> her hands clenched around the wand began to sweat
<No?>
<No, you will not have the wand, you will not have Auradon, you will not have anything> she screamed
<Nothing... Mal, Mal, Mal... what have they done to you, what happened to the bad girl I sent here with her stupid friends with one stupid TASK. Give me THE WAND, GIVE IT TO ME NOW>
<NO> she tried to scream louder over her mother's screams <I'm fine here, I'm fine with them. You never cared about what I wanted, about my feelings and now I'm going to take them. I'm happy here> her friends huddled even closer to her side.
<Boringoo, you know what I care about whether you're okay here or not, I need you for the task and now finish it Mal, you don't want to make your mother angry> her eyes shone a disturbing green.
<I'll take the risk>
< You...ugly...> she rushed forward, her scepter shone with green light as if decorated for a party.
Her feet didn't even touch the ground anymore she flew straight towards them like an angel of death.
Her mother's bright eyes put so much fear in her that Mal froze, for the umpteenth time, she couldn't move, think of doing anything while she saw the angel of death swoop down on her.
She was just a few meters away, soon she would taste her mother's magic that she had only heard about.
Jay got into a fighting stance as if he could do something while Evie tried to grab her wand to try to cast some spell. Her hands gripped the Fairy's white magic staff like pincers.
A whistle.
A whistle sung with a grim, deadly calm harmony, rang out in the cathedral, the echo ringing through the nave with an almost ghostly effect of resonance and distortion.
It emerged as an eerie wail, an eerie harmony that wound through the air like a dancing shadow. Its melody ventured into the darkness, resonating with an echo that reflected off the walls like voices from a hellish world. Each note, laden with mystery, blended with the echo, creating a set of distorted sounds that crept into the mind, leaving a sense of unsettling fascination. The whistle, intoned with sinister precision, cut through the air like a blade in the darkness. The symphony of this whistle was lost in the abyss of sound, a call that challenged the border between terror and admiration.
It stopped everyone, except Mal who was already stopped, Maleficent standing in front of them with the light of the scepter that stopped shining as brightly as before.
< It is not nice to punish a girl who wants freedom, who are we to deny such a great right> a deep voice, coming from the top of the columns on the sides of the nave, stopped the entire church.https://www.instagram.com/liberlegends?igsh=MXR3a3o4eGpsNmczZg==
