Chapter 5: The First stage (pt. 2)

The boy jumped over to the left panel. I was hoping his answer was correct, but unfortunately the glass broke, making him fall into the water with a loud splash.

"Your answer is incorrect. Number ten has failed. He receives fifty points."

I actually felt bad for him. However, I couldn't help but chuckle a little. The way he splashed into the water was absolutely hilarious. And the silly, slightly offended and disappointed expression on his face could be seen from afar. But realising, I quickly put my hand on my mouth.

I shouldn't be laughing; it hasn't been my turn yet. I hope laughing at him didn't abate my luck. But really, it was funny, not gonna lie...

Some fails and succeeds later, it was finally my turn. I entered the room through the glass door, like the Lord had asked me. As I walked towards the bridge, I felt my body slightly shiver.

Don't be nervous, Haruna. You've studied a lot, you'll be fine.

I took a deep breath and continued to walk. When I stood in front of the bridge, one of the men asked me to take off my shoes. I did as he asked and gave my shoes to him.

The Lord spoke again. "Number seventeen, your turn begins now. Statement one: The heart is the largest internal organ in the body. True or False?"

What kind of question is this? It's obviously false.

I jumped over to the right panel. The questions went on and on. After just a minute or two, I reached the ninth question.

Great, I'm already at the ninth question! After this one, there's only one question left.

"Statement nine: An ant can lift a thousand times its body weight. True or false?"

False, an ant can actually lift five thousand times its body weight.

As I pushed off to jump to the next panel, I realised my mistake. I jumped to the left panel, not the right one.

Shit, I had to jump to the right panel to choose false! I've made it this far, no way I'm failing because of an easy question like this...

I closed my eyes and held my breath, expecting to break through the glass. But instead of the sound of shattering glass and a loud splash, I just heard my feet land onto the panel.

...What?

I slowly opened my eyes and thought for a moment.

Right, if it can lift five thousand times its body weight, it can also lift a thousand times its body weight. Ah, how did I not think about that? Get a grip, Haruna! One question left.

Relieved, I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the last question.

"Your answer is correct. Statement nine: 7 x 15 x 15 x 4 x 2 x 25 x 5 = 1525000. True or false?"

I froze. This question was way harder than the previous ones.

How am I supposed to know the answer? I don't even remember half of it.

"Uhm... Excuse me, is it possible to repeat the question?" I tried.

I waited a few seconds, but it stayed silent. Feeling hopeless, I closed my eyes to think.

Alright... I'll have to guess the answer. True or false? Which one feels better? Argh, I've no idea. Hmm... wait a second.

I opened my eyes again and looked at the glass panels. I grinned a little, having an idea.
