Ellie walked into her house, the familiar creak of the floorboards under her feet.
She was greeted by an unexpected sight: her mother, eyes wild and desperate, ruthlessly bashing a box on the kitchen table.
The box, known as The Lament Configuration, was a dark relic of their past.
"Mom, what the hell are you doing?" Ellie shouted, rushing over and pushing her mother away from the box.
Her mother screamed, "I want my son back!!!"
Ellie's heart sank. Ellie noticed the empty bottles scattered around and sighed deeply.
"Mom, I miss Jamari too, but drinking isn't the way to handle this," Ellie said softly, trying to keep her voice steady.
Her mother collapsed into a chair, tears streaming down her face. "My son became a demon, Ellie. He killed Some Prick From Haddonfield, A Cannibal, and Fuckhead With A Hockey Mask, and then he got stuck in that god damn box. I don't know if he'll ever come out." her mother breaks down
Ellie knelt beside her mother, wrapping her arms around her. "I know, Mom. Jamari is in the box, but we won't figure out how to get him out if you smash it to pieces."
Her mother nodded, her sobs quieting as she clung to Ellie. The two held each other tightly, finding a moment of solace in their shared grief and determination.
INT. BACK PORCH
Michael, looking very drawn and wearing sunglasses, stands before his barbells.
He pumps them once, but can't complete a second rep. Exhausted, he drops them down.
Ellie walks over, "Hey Mikey, Damn you look horrible. What happened to you?" Ellie asks
"I don't wanna talk about it." Michael says walking in as Ellie follows behind
INT. THE KITCHEN
Sam is there, looking through the refrigerator. Michael and Ellie enter from the service porch and Michael plops down in a chair.
"Hey El." Sam says dapping up Ellie, "What did you do last night? You look wasted."
"I can't remember much after the Chinese food that looked like maggots." Michael says
"Nigga what?" Ellie asks
That takes care of Sam's appetite. "You don't suppose Grandpa's an alien, do you?" Sam asks
"What would that make Mom?" Michael asks
"You're right... not even to mention you and me." Sam says
"You guys are pretty weird." Ellie says chuckling
Nanook comes up to Michael and begins to lick the bottoms of his bare feet. "Beat it, Nanook." Michael requests, Nanook continues to lick and lick. "Sam. Make him stop."
Sam pulls Nanook away. Then he takes a closer look at Michael's feet. "Did you spill something?" Sam asks
"No. Why?" Michael asks
"The bottoms of your feet are covered with salt." Sam says
Michael gets up from the table and starts to leave the room. "I told you it was pretty weird Chinese food." Michael says
"Wanna go to the comic book store?" Sam asks
"No." Michael says
"I'm gonna make sure he doesn't die." Ellie says
Sam nods and leaves.
INT. COMIC BOOK STORE - DAY (LATER)
Sam parked his bike outside the comic book store, the sun casting long shadows on the pavement.
He pushed open the door, the bell above it jingling softly. Inside, the familiar scent of old paper and ink greeted him.
He glanced around, his eyes landing on the Frog Brothers, Alan and Edgar, who were busy at work.
Their eyes met, and they exchanged glares before Sam headed to his favorite section.
"How do you like Santa Carla?" Alan asked, breaking the silence.
"It's a pretty cool place if you're a Martian," Sam replied, not missing a beat.
"Or a vampire," Edgar added, his tone serious.
Sam raised an eyebrow. "Are you guys sniffing old newsprint or something?"
Edgar stepped closer, his eyes narrowing. "You think you're cool, don't you? You think you know what's really happening, don't you? Well, you don't know shit, buddy."
"Yeah," Alan chimed in. "You think we just work in a comic book store for our dad, huh?"
Sam smirked. "This isn't a comic book store, right. It's a bakery."
Edgar's expression didn't change. "This is just our cover. We're dedicated to a higher purpose."
Sam rolled his eyes. "Now I get it... you're like those people in the airport trying to get you to give them money. You're part of a cult."
"We're fighters for Truth, Justice, and the American Way," Alan declared, puffing out his chest.
"You better get some fresh air," Sam muttered, turning back to the comics.
"Hey, man, take this... It's on the house," Edgar said, handing him a comic titled *Destroy All Vampires*.
Sam glanced at it and shook his head. "I don't like horror comics."
Alan leaned in, his voice low. "Think of this more as a survival manual... there's our number on the back, and pray that you never need to call us."
Sam took the comic, a skeptical look on his face. "I'm gonna pray that I never need to call you."
With that, he tucked the comic under his arm and headed for the door, the bell jingling once more as he left the store.
EXT. VIDEO STORE - EVENING
Lucy emerged from the store, the late afternoon sun casting a warm glow on the sidewalk. Just as she stepped out, a sleek sports car pulled up, and Max leaped out with a grin. His Irish Setter, Thorn, sat obediently in the passenger seat, tail wagging.
"Say hello to Thorn," Max said, gesturing to his dog.
Lucy smiled and petted Thorn. "Hi, Thorn."
She began to walk, and Max quickly fell into step beside her. "You know, Lucy, this isn't working out like I planned," he said, his tone serious.
Lucy looked alarmed, her mind racing with possibilities.
Max continued, "I never get to see you." He paused, then added with a playful smile, "Which is, of course, why I hired you in the first place."
Lucy relaxed, her expression softening. Max had a way of being charmingly incorrigible. "How about dinner one night this week?" he suggested.
Lucy's eyes sparkled with amusement. "You're cute, Max."
"I know," Max replied with a wink. "It's so 'Eighties.'" He opened her car door for her with a flourish. "It's the Cute Decade."
Lucy laughed, shaking her head as she got into her car. Max closed the door behind her, giving Thorn a pat on the head before stepping back.
As Lucy drove away, she couldn't help but smile, thinking about their upcoming dinner.
