It was a dark and quiet night in Sam's bedroom. The only light came from a pair of beady eyes reflecting the opening of the bedroom door. A human form entered, moving closer.
"Michael..?" Sam called out, his voice trembling.
Sam quickly turned on the light, revealing that the beady eyes belonged to one of Grandpa's mounted owls. He sighed in relief.
"I wish he'd stop giving me these things," Sam muttered, opening the closet.
Inside, there were about a half-dozen other mounted creatures on the shelves. He tossed the owl in with the rest.
"I know everything," Michael said, his voice serious.
Suddenly, a voice called from outside the window.
"Michael! Michael!"
Sam and Michael rushed to the window and looked out. There, standing in the yard under the moonlight, was Star.
"It's that girl from the boardwalk. Is she one of them?" Sam asked, his eyes wide with fear.
"I don't know," Michael replied.
"I have to talk to you. Can I come up?" Star pleaded from below.
"Okay," Michael agreed.
He turned from the window and raced out the door into the hallway. He was about to go down the stairs when Sam shouted, "She's one of them!"
Michael turned back and saw Star standing in the bedroom doorway. She had obviously flown up, and Sam was freaked out.
"Do you know where David took me tonight, Star? Do you?!" Michael demanded.
"Yes... and I'm to blame for it. If you hadn't met me... if I hadn't liked you... I tried to warn you..." Star confessed, her voice filled with regret.
"That night in the cave -- that wasn't wine they gave me to drink... it was blood! David's blood. I'm one of them, Star! I'm just like them!" Michael exclaimed.
"Not yet... You're like Laddie and me... Half-vampires... You're not a full vampire until you've made your first kill... You were supposed to be mine... but I couldn't, Michael," Star explained.
"Why not?" Michael asked, his voice softening.
"Because I love you..." Star admitted.
"Then it's not too late for us..." Michael said, hope in his eyes.
"It's not too late for you to be saved... but each night... it becomes harder and harder for me to resist killing..." Star warned.
"I know, I've felt it..." Michael said, understanding her struggle.
"I'm weak... Soon I'll need to feed," Star confessed, her voice trembling.
Sam gulped as Michael kissed her. Star sensed something and became frightened.
"David's looking for me... I have to go," she said urgently.
"You're not going anywhere... Sam..." Michael began, but in a wink, Star was gone, out the window. They didn't even see her leave. Michael and Sam leaned out after her.
"Star," Michael called.
"Don't kill anybody until we get back to you..." Sam shouted after her.
Sam went for the phone.
"Who are you calling?" Michael asked.
"The Marines," Sam replied.
The next morning, Sam opened the door and the Frog brothers, Edgar and Alan, entered the living room.
