"So-" Carly begun sitting down at one of the tables in the staffroom across from Annie.
Annie cut her off before she got the chance to finish "you want to know how I know the Knight siblings" she finished taking a sip from her water bottle. "honestly Carly it's complicated" she smiled. "We've been friends for years, I moved away at 16 and we lost contact" she sighed taking another sip. "I bumped into Reece in the supermarket last week after moving back here and he offered me this job" she smiled.Carly nodded. "Oh, so you were like what their neighbour".
"Something like that" Annie's voice has changed she wasn't as upbeat as she'd been in the room, there was certainly something else to the story but Carly decided not to push too hard, she'd only known this girl two days and she didn't want to cause friction not since she'd just started to get comfortable with her.
"Hey Carly" a familiar voice called from behind them "Who's your friend?"
"Hello Eric" she said through slightly gritted teeth. "This is Annie she's a new apprentice."
Eric nodded staring at Annie "Hey, erm, sorry you're well fit" he spluttered which made Annie laugh as Carly rolled her eyes. "You think everyone's fit" she smirked leaning over to Annie "He does this".Annie nodded back before shooting a look at Eric. "Hello, it's lovely to meet you but I'm sorry I'm not interested" she was ever so polite and Carly had no idea how she put up with it, though looking the way she did she was probably used to it. "good bye Eric" Carly continued letting him know it was time to leave the room.
"Oh yeah erm... bye" he muttered.
"Does that ever annoy you?" Carly asked without thinking. "I mean that must really get on your nerves"
"No" Annie nodded "Well I mean it does sometimes but it's not a very often occurance"
"No way how I mean you're beautiful!" Carly spluttered out. Annie blushed.
"Well thank you" Annie smiled and looked at her watch "Come on you, it's been 15 minutes".As they were walking back down the corridor to the hallway Carly who was busy chatting about a guy she'd been talking to on snapchat wasn't watching where she'd been going and bumped right into the back of someone. "Opps sorry I - Mia?" Carly began.
"Hello" Mia responded in her usual basic tone she used with the apprentice. Charlotte whispered "Amelia" under her breath and the red head softened, she turned her head to meet Annie's gaze. "Well well hello little sis"Charlotte and Carly both looked at each other shocked and then to the redhead who had a smirk on her face. Annie laughed and crossed her arms "you haven't called me that in years Mia pack it in" she laughed embracing the older woman.
"Wait so Mia's your sister?" Carly asked.
Annie laughed "No but we grew up together just like Reece and Autumn and it just became a nickname as she always looked out for me" Annie smiled. "I've missed you" Annie said her voice sounded sad and she wrapped one of her hands around her other arm. Mia smiled softly, softer then Charlotte had ever seen and she wrapped the girl up in another hug. "Well I'm here now" she ushered gently "I'm sorry I left" she continued before pulling the girl off her and staring into her eyes. "We'll catch up soon".Mia kissed Charlotte on the cheek and then moved to leave "I'll ring you Annie, lets meet for coffee" Annie nodded brushing away a small tear that had run down her face.
Carly reached out and touched the girl's shoulder. Annie stiffened slightly before taking a breath, turning and smiling at Carly placing her hand over hers. "Shall we? parents will be coming soon with little ones" With that Annie walked into the sleep room to check on the babies.Carly and Charlotte exchanged a glance then back to Mia who had watched the girl leave. "Don't worry Char" she addressed her girlfriend "She's one of the good ones" Mia smiled as she set off to leave.
Notes: bit of a shorter chapter, I wanted to leave it on a cliff hanger but wasn't really able to. I hope you enjoy it :) I cannot stop thinking about this book and upcoming chapters so I hope you're ready for more coming soon. - Raven.
