In the cold, sterile depths of the underground laboratory, tension hung thick in the air. The scientists, clad in their protective gear, were huddled around their equipment, their faces pale and anxious as they monitored the spread of the virus they had unleashed. The screens before them displayed maps with rapidly spreading red zones, representing areas where the virus had taken hold and decimated populations. It was out of control-far beyond what they had anticipated.
Suddenly, the heavy doors of the lab slammed open, and the politician stormed in, his face contorted with rage. His entourage of security personnel struggled to keep up as he strode toward the group of scientists. His voice boomed through the room, filled with fury and desperation.
"What the hell is happening?!" he bellowed, his eyes blazing as he pointed an accusatory finger at the head scientist after Dr Lee, Dr. Soraya. "This virus was supposed to be a controlled weapon, a means to strike at those who betrayed us, not to bring the entire world to its knees!"
Dr. Soraya, a tall woman with sharp features and a cold, calculating demeanor, remained unflinching under his gaze. She exchanged a quick, nervous glance with her colleagues before addressing the politician. "The virus has evolved beyond our control. It's more virulent than we anticipated. The mutations... they're unpredictable. We thought we could contain it, but-"
"But what?!" the politician interrupted, his voice rising with each word. "You assured me this would be controlled, that we could decide who lives and who dies. Now look at what's happening! Entire cities wiped out, nations falling-this was not the plan!"
Dr. Soraya's face hardened, her patience wearing thin. "Plans change, especially when dealing with something as complex as a virus. We couldn't have predicted this. But we are safe-we are vaccinated. We'll survive this."
The politician's face twisted into a sneer of disgust. "Survive? For what? To rule over a wasteland of corpses? To be kings of the ashes? What good is survival when the world is dead?! This was never supposed to happen!"
Dr. Soraya took a step forward, her voice cold and unwavering. "It was always a possibility. You wanted power-well, now you have it. Absolute power, over nothing but death and ruin. You should have known what you were playing with."
The politician's eyes darkened with a malevolent gleam. "You think this is power? This... this is madness! You've doomed us all, and for what? A twisted experiment? This is the end of everything!"
He glanced around the room, his gaze narrowing as if calculating his next move. The security personnel behind him exchanged uneasy looks, unsure of what was coming. Dr. Soraya remained calm, her gaze never wavering from the politician's.
"You have no one to blame but yourself," Dr. Soraya continued, her voice icy. "You wanted revenge. You wanted to unleash hell upon your enemies. Now, you're reaping the consequences of your own ambition."
The politician's lips curled into a snarl. "You think you're safe because you have your vaccines? Because you think you've outsmarted everyone? Let me tell you something, Dr. Soraya-no one is safe from this. Not even you."
With a swift motion, the politician reached into his coat, pulling out a concealed pistol. The room froze as the cold metal glinted under the harsh fluorescent lights. Dr. Soraya's eyes widened, but before she could react, the politician fired.
The gunshot echoed through the lab, a deafening sound that shattered the tense silence. Dr. Soraya staggered back, clutching her chest as blood seeped through her fingers. She gasped, her legs giving way as she crumpled to the floor, the life draining from her eyes.
The other scientists recoiled in horror, but the politician didn't stop. He turned the gun on them, his face a mask of fury and despair. "This is your doing!" he shouted, his voice cracking. "You've killed us all!"
