"let's set each other's lonely nights
be each other's paradise"

- justin bieber, company

I wake up the next morning to someone knocking on my door at 5 AM. I can barely think straight, but I get up in the t-shirt I sleep in and find Spencer standing there with a coffee in each hand.

"Good morning!" she says, handing me one of the cups. She's got a grin from ear to ear, which seems impossible this early. "Tell me everything, with details," she says seriously. It takes me a few seconds to remember what happened the night before; it feels like a crazy dream.

"Good morning and thanks for the coffee." I sit while she settles into the desk chair. "It was nothing special. We went out for dinner, talked, and then went back to our own rooms." I leave out the kiss part. She looks at me suspiciously.

"And are you guys going to keep seeing each other?" she asks.

"Spenc, you know what I went through. Andrew made me feel tiny, stupid, and useless, and I never want to feel like that again. I handed over my self-esteem on a silver platter and, stupid me, was surprised when he threw it in the trash. Now that things seem to be back to normal, I don't know if I can do it."

"Sun, you're one of the most amazing people I've ever met. You should never feel this way." She gets up and hugs me. "You know I'll always be here for you." She lets go and walks to the door. "I wish you could come along, but the van's leaving for the set soon. Are you coming?"

"I can't make it today. I need to answer some emails and approve some budgets. I know you can handle things for me today, and I owe you one." I go over and give her another hug. "Just try not to drool with so many hot guys around." I open the door for her, and she responds, "I'll try." and leaves.

I have my coffee, take a shower, sit at the table, and open my laptop. I lose track of time and only realize it's 10 AM when I hear a notification on my phone.

I'm going with this because I know it's just a temporary thing. After 3 months of no messages from Andrew asking to talk, things are finally starting to look up in every way.

At first, our relationship was great. We met in college, where he was studying to be a screenwriter. He was the best, did everything for our relationship. Then, at some point, he started getting controlling. He'd question me about going out with friends, make comments about the size of my clothes, and hint that I was cheating on him with the actors I worked with. The reality check came when I discovered he'd been cheating for a while, and he told me he was doing me a favor by being with me, that no one would ever love me like he did. Since then, he's always tried to talk to me, and I've never responded.

At 10 PM, after spending the whole day locked in my room, only coming out for lunch, I get a message.

p.

are you awake?

sun

p.

i just got in

i left my door open for you

i'm getting in the shower

I decide it's time to set some boundaries. I put on a light dress and head to his room.

"I'm here," I call out, raising my voice. The bathroom door is slightly open, and I can see the steam.

"I'm coming out now," I hear his muffled voice. I take the chance to look around the room: bed made, a book on the desk, and his camera left on a chair.

"I'm still figuring out the settings," and I jump a little at his voice behind me. I turn and find Paul with a towel around his waist, his hair wet and messy. I realize I'm staring and quickly look up at his face. He's smiling. This is going to make it hard to set any boundaries.

"We need to set some rules here," I say, pointing between us. "We need to keep this casual. We have two more weeks here, and after that, you'll go back to London, and I'll head to Los Angeles. We'll probably run into each other and be those friends who worked together on the same movie." I take a deep breath and sit on the bed.

"I accept your terms, but for now, let's just focus on the present." He comes towards me, stopping right in front of me. I look up at his face. "Tomorrow we're only filming at night, so we could order something and watch a movie."

Well, that night, we ended up doing a lot more than just watching a movie.

The next weeks were magical. I was so proud of all the work my team and I did. Besides getting along great, we all hung out together, laughed, had fun, and the movie turned out amazing. Paul and I had an incredible connection. We went hiking, had drinks, tried new foods, watched movies, and listened to music whenever we could find time between shoots.

On the last day, we said our goodbyes and promised we wouldn't lose touch.
