LIFTED
Very rare moments of life occur randomly, where things go completely opposite from what we expected them to be.
As Dhruv left the room, he bumped into Radha in the lift. He hesitated, but she invited him in, "Good Evening, get in! No need to be formal!"
Dhruv entered while thinking 'Change of mood or Change of color'
Is she a chameleon?
"Good evening, ma'am. Sorry about this morning." Dhruv replied.
Radha brushed it off by, "Happens quite often with almost everyone, don't bother about it."
Excuse me? Are you actually a chameleon?
Radha introduced herself, "Hi, I'm Radha, you HR."
Dhruv replied, "Hi, I'm Dhruv, your junior ma'am" - they shared a laugh.
Just then, the lift stopped.
Even the lift was like 'Wait a minute!'
Radha shrieked, "Woahh!!"
"What happened?" as the lift jerked to stop.
Dhruv acted calm, placed his laptop down and approached the console. He pressed buttons, but they didn't work. The light flickered like a horror movie, and Radha clung to him, terrified.
As they huddled in the corner, Radha wailed, "I AM SCARED!!" and burst into tears.
The lift, still on the 7th floor, Dhruv frantically pressed buttons, but they just didn't work. Radha grabbed his sleeve, eyes streaming with tears.
"Ma'am, calm down!!" Dhruv whispered.
"Lift isn't moving, the security will come soon!"
Just then the lift started moving upwards, with a steady speed.
Radha shouted, "NOW WHAT??"
Dhruv was speechless, as there are no answers.
He started tapping the buttons on the console constantly.
"We are having almost no time to think" Radha called Rohit who is the CEO of MD Group of companies.
"Hello~" Rohit was having his peaceful day in the office with his coffee on his table, works were processing normally, wind is flowing in his room and a soothing music was playing in the background. A typical positive environment.
"HELLO!!!! I AM STUCK!!!" Radha shouted on the receiver.
"Where~" Rohit answered with a rhythm.
"IN THE LIFT!!!!!"
"HELP ME!!!!" Radha shouted.
Radha's frantic voice on the phone sent Rohit's heart racing as she begged for help, her panic infectious and urgent. He swiftly reassured her, "Wait really!! I am co-coming, you don't make extra moments"
"Is someone with you?"
"YEAH!! DHRUV, the new guy who started yesterday, we're both trapped in this elevator" Radha replied.
Rohit paused for a second,
"Listen carefully, trust no one but Dhruv. Follow his instructions, don't question anything. I'll be there in five minutes to get you out."
The lift reached the 9th floor, it's the terrace.
It stopped for there for few seconds, and after that it started moving down.
As the lift descended at a normal speed, Dhruv was tapping the buttons on the console constantly, which ultimately led the doors to open. But the lift was still in motion, without any brakes.
Dhruv stated his plan,
"We're gonna jump!"
"HUH??? JUMP????" Radha's eyes widened in horror.
"See Radha, we don't have any other option left. It's either do or die. According to the lift's speed right now. It's gonna collide with the base which will KILL us" Dhruv explained.
"We still have 6 floors left, already 3 floors are gone. Close your eyes and jump with me" Dhruv started convincing Radha.
Radha PASSED OUT, she just left her hopes and decided to faint. Making it much worse for Dhruv.
can't blame her for that.
Dhruv wanted to escape, but his heart wouldn't let him leave Radha behind!
He scooped her up, cradling her in his arms, his heart racing with fear. Finally, on the 2nd floor, Dhruv made a daring leap of faith. Landed on the floor, while the lift continued its journey to the ground floor, where it crashed with the base beneath it.
As it was the lunch time, all the employees were out of the working block. They were either in the garden, parking lot or cafeteria. As the campus is huge, the sound didn't reach anyone who can create 'ruckus' about it.
The lift accident was swiftly responded by the working staff, who grabbed fire extinguishers and doused the small flames, bring the situation under control within seconds.
Meanwhile, Rohit declared a holiday via WhatsApp, citing an 'urgent meeting',
"MANCHIL ROHIT (CEO)-
Due to scheduled urgent meeting,
Every work today is CANCELED!
The employees are requested to leave the office premises.
I repeat, EVACUATE THE AREA!"
The security started the evacuation drill, where everyone was forced to leave.
Jhanvi on the other hand, tried calling Dhruv multiple times,
Diya and Celia were worried and they weren't leaving the premises without Dhruv.
Just then, Sanjay called Jhanvi,
Jhanvi: Hello sir!
Sanjay: Jhanvi, listen carefully. We are having an important meeting now at the moment. I required Dhruv for that.
Jhanvi: Meeting? Now? But sir, how Dhruv can be a requirement? He joined yesterday, right?
Sanjay: *sighs Too many questions. Will answer tomorrow. Bye for now.
*ends the call.
Jhanvi states the conversation to Diya and Celia who were utterly surprised by the things which happened.
The only option they were left with is to head home and wait for Dhruv's arrival.
Jhanvi and her squad parted ways with Diya and Celia, stated their good byes. Diya had the keys of the car, so she left with Celia.
Rohit rushed to the 2nd floor, where he found Radha and Dhruv lying on the floor. Radha was unconscious, her body draped over Dhruv's. Rohit carefully moved her aside, checking her vital signs to ensure she was alive.
With a sign of relief,
he turned towards Dhruv, who was shaken but conscious.
"Everything okay?" Rohit asked, concern etched on his face.
"The lift was functioning normally until this morning. Someone tampered with the circuit system. Review the CCTV footages" Dhruv said while getting up and dusting himself.
"Also take us to a hospital"
Dhruv collapsed on the floor getting unconscious.
