She glanced at her watch and noted that the call had already been going on for nearly 30 minutes. The waiting felt interminable, and as she sat there, her thoughts drifted back to the conversation with her sister-in-law and the stormy morning. The opulence of the office did little to soothe her growing restlessness.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, her boss ended the call. He looked up and motioned for Yuri to come forward.

As the boss concluded his call, he looked up and saw Yuri still waiting.

“Yuri,”
he said, his tone warm but authoritative,

“please, take a seat in the chair in front of my desk.”

Yuri stood up and moved to the chair across from his desk, offering a polite smile.

“Good morning,” she greeted.

“Good morning, Yuri,” he replied,

his expression reflecting a mixture of concern and professionalism.

Noting her slightly tense demeanor, he asked,

“How are you feeling today? Are you taking care of yourself?”

Yuri's patience wore thin.

“I’m fine,” she interrupted, her voice sharper than intended.
“There’s no need to ask me these questions every day. It’s not like I’m going to harm myself, so you don’t have to worry about me.”

Her boss nodded, slightly taken aback by her response but choosing not to press further.
“Alright, if you’re sure. You can go back to your work now.”

Yuri stood up, the brief encounter leaving her more unsettled than before. She offered a quick, formal nod and walked out of the office, her mind racing with the morning’s events as she made her way back to her desk.

Yuri returned to her desk, slumping into her chair with a visible sigh. Her head hung low, reflecting the frustration and exhaustion she felt. The office was buzzing with activity, but her mind was distant, caught up in the morning's encounters.
