As Kei left, the office grew quieter. Yuri focused on her remaining tasks, her fingers typing methodically. The boss, who had stayed behind, approached Yuri’s desk with a cup of tea in hand. He set it down beside her, offering a polite gesture. “Would you like some tea, Yuri?”
Yuri glanced at the cup but made no move to take it. She continued working, her attention fixed on her screen.
The boss, noting the oversight, looked at the computer screen. “Yuri,” he said, his tone firm but not unkind, “make sure to use bold font for the headings. It’s a simple adjustment, but it’s important for clarity.”
Yuri looked up briefly, acknowledging the correction. “Yes, I’ll take care of it,” she said, returning to her work.
The boss nodded, satisfied with the response, and left her to finish her tasks. Yuri sighed, adjusting the headings as instructed, and worked diligently until she could finally close her files and prepare to leave.
Yuri finished her work and prepared to leave the office. As she gathered her things, her phone rang with an unknown number flashing on the screen. Hesitant but curious, she answered the call.
On the other end, a familiar voice said, “How have you been?”
Yuri replied calmly, “Good.”
The caller continued, “Has Seema contacted you?”
“Yes, she called me this morning,” Yuri answered.
“So, what did you decide?” the caller asked. “Before you make any decisions, let me tell you something. I know you’re not likely to come back to this house because of what happened, but...Overmorrow is Yohan’s birthday, as you know.”
Yuri cut the caller off, her patience wearing thin. “Please leave me alone,” she said firmly before ending the call.
As the call disconnected, Yuri looked up and noticed that the rain had finally stopped outside. The sky was clearing, but the sight of the calm, post-storm evening did little to ease the storm of emotions inside her. Tears began to fall, unchecked, as she struggled with the weight of unresolved feelings and difficult decisions.
With a deep breath, Yuri wiped her tears and took a moment to compose herself before leaving the office. The quiet evening seemed to reflect her inner turmoil, and as she stepped out, she felt the rain's end only marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
