"Here it is" my mom announced as we pulled into a driveway. Our new driveway.
"Can we go in?" my little sister August asked eagerly, unbuckling her seatbelt.
"We sure can" my dad grinned, getting out of his seat and opening the door to help August and Adam, my younger brother, out of the car.
"You coming, Love?" my mom stood next to the car door.
I closed my eyes and sighed, reluctantly unbuckling my seatbelt.
"Yeah, I'm coming."
I stood in the heat as my dad fumbled with the keys, eventually finding the right one and unlocking the front door to our new house.
"Woahhhh" my brother and sister gasped.
"It's huge!!" August exclaimed.
"Whaddya think, Love?" My mom asked me while Dad showed Adam and August around.
I shrugged. "It's nice I guess"
My mom gave me a sympathetic and understanding look.
"Look, I know you aren't crazy about us moving away. You had to leave your friends, and our old place was all you've known for 16 years. I understand. It'll take some getting used to, but I really think you'll come to like it. And we're only an hour away, I promise I'll take you to see your friends every few weeks or so, okay? Just try to look on the bright side...we have more space for our family, and you get your own room now."
I plastered a light smile on my face. "Yeah, true, that'll definitely be nice."
"C'mon, let's go figure out whose room is whose" She nodded her head towards the stairs, and I nodded before following her up.
"August..." my dad groaned, and I darted my eyes towards my 5 year old sister crying on the ground.
"What's going on?" My mom asked, looking back and forth between my dad and sister.
"Daddy won't let me have the big room" she cried.
I knelt down to her level. "Hey, it's alright Aug, there's plenty of other rooms to choose from. Mommy and Daddy need the bigger room because they have to share a room, but you get your own room, right?"
August rubbed her eyes and nodded.
"C'mon, let's go look at the other rooms, and you can choose whichever room you want, okay?"
She nodded and stood up. I grabbed her tiny hand and walked down the hallway.
"Thanks Love" my mom mouthed, which I replied to with a smile and nod.
I stood at the end of the hallway with three rooms and looked down at August, letting her choose whichever room her little heart desired.
"Whatcha thinkin?" I asked her. I had my eyes set on one room in particular, and I secretly hoped she wouldn't pick it, but I wasn't gonna break her heart twice if that was the one she wanted.
"Ummm" she thought for a second. "I want that one" she pointed to the room on the left.
Of course.
I sighed before looking back down at her. "You sure that's the one you want?"
"Yep!" She smiled up at me with her innocent little face, and I couldn't help but smile back.
