My alarm went off at 6 oclock this morning, the sun barely rising yet. I took a couple minutes to stretch and fully wake up before I crawled out of bed.

I walked over to my closet, trying to find an outfit for my first day at my new school. I wanted something nice, but not too nice.

I eventually settled on a light pink ribbed tank top with white jean shorts, and a couple necklaces to go with it.

Once I got myself ready, I quietly opened Adam's bedroom door to see if he was awake yet, which he wasn't. Then I opened August's door, she was asleep too.

Quietly, I tip-toed down the stairs and turned on the stove to make myself some scrambled eggs.

After I finished making them, I sat down at the counter and started eating, hearing my parents start to move around in their bedroom.

"Morning Love, you're up early" my mom said as she walked down the stairs.

"Yeah, I wanted to make sure I had enough time to get myself ready"

"You ready for today?"

"I think so. I'm nervous, for sure, but I'm pretty excited too"

"That's good. Just try to remind yourself that the first day is gonna be stressful, and that's okay, you're a smart girl and you'll figure everything out." She smiled at me as she made her way over to the coffee machine.

"Thanks mom" I smile back. "Do you want me to get the littles up?" I asked, referring to my younger siblings.

"That would be amazing, if you have time"

"Yeah of course"

"Thanks Love"

Once I finished eating, I walked back upstairs and opened Adam's door again.

"Hey bud, time to get up. You start school today"

Adam slowly stirred as he sat up in his bed, rubbing his eyes.

"School today?"

"Yeah, school today. You excited?"

"Scared" he said quietly.

"There's nothing to be scared of, I promise. These are new kids, not those mean kids from your old school. I'm sure everyone will be very nice, and you'll have some friends in no time. You'll do amazing, I know it. I'm gonna go get August up now, you know what you're gonna wear?"

Adam nodded.

"Okay, go ahead and get dressed, then meet me in the kitchen and I'll make you something to eat, sound good?"

He just simply nodded again, and I smiled at him before walking into Augusts room, flipping the light on and kneeling down by her bed.

"Auggie...wake up sleepyhead"

Unlike Adam and I, August was able to wake up just like that.

"I have school today!"

"Yeah, you do. Are you excited?"

"Mhm! I'm gonna see my teacher and make friends and learn how to know things!"

I giggle at her cuteness. "That's right Aug, you're gonna learn how to know so many things."

Once August climbed out of bed, I helped her pick out something to wear, since a 5-year-olds outfit decisions weren't typically the most amazingly coordinated.

"Alright, you look adorable" I smiled as I finished putting her second pigtail in her hair. "You wanna go get some food?"

"Yeah! I want pancakes!"

"Okay," I giggle, "I can make you some pancakes. Chocolate chip?"

"Yeah!"

"Got it. Let's go" I take her little hand in mine and walk down the steps, entering the kitchen where Adam was sitting patiently.

"Hey bud, do pancakes sound good for breakfast?"

Adam smiled and nodded.

I picked August up and sat her down in the seat next to Adam before making them each a couple of chocolate chip pancakes.

"Alright, I have to leave in a couple minutes, but I hope you both have the best day ever. Adam, I know it's scary, but try to talk to a couple people today if you can, it'll help you make some friends, that way school won't be so scary. And August, opposite deal for you, remember, don't talk when other people are talking, okay? Listen to what your teacher says"

With mouths full of pancakes, they each gave me a nod and thumbs up.

"Okay you two, I hope you have a great first day. I love you both" I give them each a kiss on the cheek before saying bye to my parents and walking out the front door.

Once I sit down in my car, I double check that I have everything, take a deep breath, and put the key in the ignition.

"Here we go"
