•Lover•
I woke up to August running into my room at 6 in the morning.

"Lover! Lover!" She pulled the blanket off of me.

"Hm?" I groaned as I sat up, rubbing my eyes and looking at her.

"Mom bought donuts for breakfast!"

I giggled at her excitement. "Ooo yum, you wanna go get some?"

"Uh-huh!" she nodded, her smile huge.

I stretched for a couple seconds before taking her hand in mine and walking downstairs to the kitchen.

"Morning girls" my mom greeted us.

"Morning...what's the special occasion?" I gestured to the donuts.

"Just a little treat for you guys since you got through your first day of school" she shrugged.

"Aw that's sweet, you didn't have to do that though"

"Yes she did!" August chimed in with a mouthful of a chocolate frosting covered donut.

Me and my mom both giggled as I grabbed a donut.

A couple minutes later, Adam walked down the stairs and into the kitchen.

"Morning bud" I smiled at him.

Adam smiled and waved shyly in return.

"How'd you sleep?" I asked, trying to get him to talk.

He gave me a thumbs up and reached for a donut before sitting down next to August.

"Did he talk at all at school yesterday?" I whispered to my mom, who frowned slightly in return.

"No, his teacher said she tried to get him to talk but he would just nod or use hand symbols."

"I'm sure he'll get there eventually, it'll take time"

"I sure hope so"

After I ate breakfast, I went back upstairs to my room and got dressed in some black leggings and a white tank top with little pink sparkles on it.

Around 7:45, I went back downstairs.

"I'm heading out now mom, love you!"

"Love you too hun, have a good day!"

"Bye Lover!!" August yelled.

I chuckled. "Bye Aug"

I waved goodbye to August and Adam before walking out the door and getting in my car. Once I threw my stuff in the passenger seat, I turned the key and started driving. It took me about 10 minutes to get to school, and once I did, I was greeted by Betty at a table in the cafeteria.

"We have like 15 minutes before the bell rings, you should just chill here with me"

"Sure, I'm cool with that" I smiled as I sat down next to her.

"Did you hear about the drama between Jack and Willow?"

"Who?

"Oh right, I forgot you probably don't know everyone yet. Well I'll give you a quick run-down. Jack is one of the football boys, need I say more?"

I chuckled and shook my head. "No, I know the type"

"Okay, Willow is one of my closest friends here. She usually sits with us at lunch but she wasn't here yesterday, you'll see her today. Anyways, Willow has been dating Jack for a couple months now, but some dramatic shit went down last night."

"Oh? What kind of dramatic..stuff?"

"My bad for cussing, but anyways...Basically last night Jack and Willow were texting and Jack starting talking about this other girl, which is already a red flag. But he was saying how funny she is and how she's done all these nice things for him, yada yada. So then Willow gets upset and..."

Betty kept explaining the story, but I started to tune her out when I saw that Reputation girl from yesterday walk into the cafeteria and sit at an empty table in the corner.

"So then Jack got all defensive and told her she was just being jealous and then Willow started...Lover? Are you even listening?"

"Huh? Oh sorry"

"Are you looking at Reputation again? I swear you're like in love with her or something"

"What? Ew no, I'm not...I like guys. Anyways, I found her blacked out on the bathroom floor yesterday, so I was just looking at her to see if she looked okay"

"Whatever you say. So anyways, long story short because the bell is gonna ring, eventually Willow pried it out of Jack and he admitted that he'd been cheating on her for the past 3 weeks and that he's been dating this other girl. So now Willow's obviously heartbroken and they broke up and yeah"

"Dang, poor girl. That sucks"

"Yeah...anyways, new subject. You trying out for volleyball?"

"Huh? That was really random"

"Well I mean, you played for your old school, right?"

"Yeah"

"Volleyball tryouts are after school today, you should totally do it"

"I don't know..." I contemplated.

"Come oooonnnn....it'll be a great way to get involved, and you already know what you're doing since you used to play."

"I'll think about it" I said right as the bell rung.

"You totally should" she replied as we stood up and grabbed our bags, walking in different directions to our first hour class.

For the next 45 minutes, I thought about the tryouts. I did really love playing volleyball at my old school, and it would probably help me get to know more people and make me feel like part of this school. The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea.

Once the bell rang, I grabbed my phone and texted my mom.

💕Mom💕

There's volleyball tryouts after school today, can I go?

Yeah, absolutely!!
