'Are you.... gay?'
I stared at my dad in silence.
"Mason. Answer me" He frowned.
"Dad" I sighed.
"You are. Aren't you?"
I looked down. "Yes"
"I can't believe this" Dad rested his head on the steering wheel. "My only son. Gay"
"Dad" I started crying.
"Please. Don't say anything" He sighed.
I bit my lip to keep it from quivering.
Dad stayed silent as he backed out of the driveway and drove off to Benny's.
Why did he ask that question. He probably hates me. I'm pretty sure my eyes are red and puffy from my tears. I hope no one asks questions. Henry better back off. But... do I want him to?
"Da-"
"No. Please" Dad stopped me.
"Dad. I-"
"Stop" He ordered.
"Why'd you even ask in the first place if you knew you wouldn't like the answer!" I yelled.
Dad stayed quiet.
"Dad. I'm sorry" I frowned.
Silence.
"Dad" I trailed off.
A few minutes later we arrived at Henry's house. We didn't talk, or make eye contact, as we exited the car. I kept my head down.
"Hey. Mason, Henry ran to the store. If you want to put your stuff up in his room now, you can" Benny smiled.
"Mason will be in the spare room" My dad mumbled. "I'll take the couch"
"Dad. I'm fine in-"
"You're getting the spare room. Scat" My dad snapped.
I flinched. I didn't want to get yelled at again, so I headed upstairs. I could hear Benny ask what was going on.
The spare room was nice. It's across the hall from Henry's and right next to one of the bathrooms. The bed sheets are a bright white and the walls match. It's like... heaven? I set my bag down on my bed and sighed. Did I just fuck up my relationship with my dad? Just because I'm gay? Sorry but I don't think I have a choice.
"Hey" Henry said from the doorway.
"Hi"
"What's wrong?" He entered the room and shut the door.
I felt a tear slip down my cheek.
"Please don't cry" Henry wiped away the tear. "What happened? Your dad didn't look to happy"
"He asked if I was gay" I sniffled. "He didn't like the answer"
"So I take it the answer was yes, you are?"
I nodded.
"Who cares what he says" Henry hugged me.
"I do. We had the best father-son relationship" I cried.
"It's okay. If he actually cared, he will apologize. What all was said?"
"He couldn't believe it, his only son was gay, and when I tried to explain he told me not to talk"
Henry held me closer. "It's okay"
I moved into him and cried.
"Shh. It'll be fine" He cooed.
Henry moved us so we were laying on the bed, holding each other. It was really comforting, before I realized who it was. Move away. He is being really nice. But... I don't want to trust him. Yet I do.
"Henry! Are you coming to the camp fire?" Benny yelled up the stairs.
"Nah. I'll stay up here" Henry replied.
"You sure?"
"Yeah" Henry looked at me "Unless you want to go"
I shook my head. Dad's probably down there.
"C'mon. I'll let you wear one of my jackets. It doesn't look like you brought one" He tried.
"Fine"
Henry smiled and sat us up. "Now. You're dad is probably down there. Don't worry. Don't pay attention to him"
I sighed and nodded.
Henry went to his room and returned with a warm-looking black jacket and a black blanket.
"Coming?" He smiled, handing me the jacket.
I slipped it on and started walking.
"Do you mind?" Henry asked nicely, sliding his hand into mine.
I shrugged and we continued to the backyard.
Little fill-in chapter. I didn't know what else to write at the end but I figured 'Why not a campfire?' So here that is. Please let me know if there are any mistakes.
