It took all of Sophie's might to stop herself from hailing Keefe, with her Imparter already in her hands. She gripped the silver gadget so tight she would have to let Dex check it later.
Sophie took several deep breaths until she relaxed and put the Imparter down.
Keefe needs some time to think for himself.
She searched her mind for anything she could distract herself with until she found a plan she'd had tucked in the shadows of her mind.
Sophie hesitated.
Am I ready to see him again? She asked herself.
Yes.
Sophie picked up her Imparter again and hailed Fitz before she could rethink.
When he picked up, Sophie was surprised he wasn't lying about the twenty chandeliers. And...
"Wait, are you sitting on a chandelier?" Sophie asked.
Fitz nodded like it was the most obvious thing in the world, and she burst out laughing.
Fitz frowned, "What is it you were calling me for?"
"Let's talk telepathically since I don't want Sandor to hear."
"Hear what?" Sandor asked.
"You'll see!"
She ended the call and reached out to Fitz.
Well, I was thinking Grizel...
Fitz had agreed to her plan and Sophie transmitted to Flori, Lur, and Mitya to set up a table in the Grove.
After all the arrangements were finished, Sophie opened her bedroom door.
"Sandor, we're going somewhere."
"Where?" Sandor demanded.
Sophie just smiled and motioned for him to follow. Sandor huffed.
She walked across the pastures, tripping a few times on nothing. By the time they reached the Grove, Fitz and Grizel were already there.
"These chairs look too tall for you," Sandor noted.
Sophie's grin reached her eyes, "I know, because it's for you."
Sandor's face flamed, even with the blue light from the tiny glowworms.
Grizel's cheeks were just as red, and she walked up to Sandor and took his hand.
"Don't you want this?"
"It's all I've ever wanted," Sandor admitted. "But we might have to quit this job if we want to be together."
"Or we can keep meeting up," Sophie glanced at Fitz and he beamed.
"You'll have no more say in my love life, Miss Foster," Sandor warned, glaring at her.
But his gaze softened as his eyes returned to the love of his life.
Sandor pulled out the chair for Grizel and she took it.
Just then, Sophie heard earthy voices from the trees.
"Awwww!"
It was very cute, and Sophie resisted herself from saying the same. She mouthed a 'thank you' in the direction of the gnomes.
When Sandor took a seat, Flori sang for the roots to elevate her to serve a pink-furry-pineapple-looking fruit.
Sophie stepped back to give them some space as Sandor and Grizel leaned in, but as she turned around, her toes got caught in a plant and she fell.
Fitz caught her just in time.
Someone cleared their throat.
Sophie and Fitz scrambled to turn, and they caught Keefe glaring at them with intense eyes.
Keefe must have been here for a walk.
"What is happening here?" He asked.
"We set Sandor and Grizel up for a date, and nothing's happening between us, Keefe," Sophie said quickly, reaching for his hand.
Keefe jerked away from her. "This doesn't look like nothing," he pointed from Fitz to Sophie.
"Please, Keefe, let me explain."
But he just stormed off, holding his home crystal to the blue glow.
"No!" Sophie shouted.
She fell to her knees as Keefe leaped away without another look at them.
