"Guys, we have company today!"exclaimed David, Opening the door with a smirk, gesturing for me to come in.

I stepped into the room, and the first thing that hit me was the pungent smell of smoke. Yuri and Max, sprawled out on the couch, each holding a cigarette, jumped slightly upon seeing me, clearly surprised by my presence.

"Hey, Margo!" Max exclaimed, trying to hide his embarrassment behind a friendly smile.

"Sorry about all this smoke and mess..." Yuri began, quickly getting up. He stubbed out his cigarette in an already overflowing ashtray and started picking up empty cans and other trash that cluttered the coffee table. "We weren't expecting any visitors."

He then walked over to the windows, opening them wide to let the thick smoke escape. A fresh breeze entered the apartment, gradually clearing the smell of tobacco.

"It's really no problem," I stammered, feeling a bit awkward. "I didn't mean to show up unannounced or be a bother."

But before I could finish my sentence, David chimed in with his usual enthusiasm. "Today's Margo's birthday, and we brought a cake to celebrate!" he said, proudly holding up a white cardboard box, from which a sweet, pastry-like aroma emanated.

"Oh, awesome!" Yuri and Max responded in unison, clearly pleased by this announcement.

David approached me with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, you're not bothering anyone here. In fact, we're glad you're here."

He motioned for me to follow him to the kitchen, where Max had already laid out plates and utensils. The apartment was spacious, with modern furniture and shelves crammed with books, DVDs, and small decorative items. The kitchen itself was large and ultramodern, designed for both functionality and aesthetics. A central island, topped with an elegant white marble countertop veined with gray, dominated the center of the room. Around this island, sleek black leather stools offered a perfect space for quick meals or friendly conversations.

Max grabbed a cake knife and was about to cut the slices when Yuri returned with glasses and a bottle of wine, which he set down on the table. "It's not every day we get to celebrate a birthday! We have to make it special."

I sat at the modern wooden table, watching the guys bustling about with a palpable sense of camaraderie. The mess that had existed only moments ago had been replaced by a convivial atmosphere. The smell of cigarette smoke had been replaced by the appetizing scent of the vanilla cake David had brought, and the excitement of an impromptu birthday celebration hung in the air.

Yuri served me a generous slice of cake while Max filled the glasses. David, true to form, started a cheerful "Happy Birthday, Margo!" which the others quickly joined in chorus.

I couldn't help but smile as I looked at them, touched by their effort to make this day special. Despite the unplanned nature and apparent chaos, I felt a familiar warmth settle in, the kind that comes from genuine friendship and shared moments that, without warning, transform an ordinary day into an unforgettable memory.

Minutes had passed, and the good mood continued to reign in the apartment. Laughter filled the air, the conversation was light, and the warm atmosphere was almost tangible. The sweet and sugary scent of vanilla cake still lingered in the air, mingling with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

Suddenly, Max stood up, breaking the flow of the conversation with a slightly more serious expression. "Guys, we're going to have to leave you for a bit," he announced, surprising the group slightly. Yuri, who was by his side, nodded in agreement, as if to confirm the necessity of their departure.
