"So, you're coming with me to the Slug Club party, right?" I asked Draco as we walked into the common room. I was already wearing my green dress and honestly didn't want to go to the party that much.
"Of course. I just need to take care of one thing first. You know, for my mission." Draco said to me and I nodded before I walked away with the rest of our friends. I was getting so bored making small talk with the other guests that I just focused on looking out for Draco. That was when I saw Filch holding onto Draco's suit jacket. "Oh shit." I muttered, trying to get a better view.
"Get your hands off me, you filthy squib." Draco said.
"Professor Slughorn, sir, I just discovered this boy lurking in an upstairs corridor. He claims to have been invited to your party." Filch said.
"Because I was invited! I was accompanying my girlfriend!" Draco said, glancing at me.
"He's telling the truth! I'm his girlfriend. Let him go." I said, stepping forward and Filch reluctantly let go of Draco's jacket and he shrugged out of Filch's grasp.
"Mr. Malfoy, if I may, please have a word with you out in the hall." Severus said, leading the way out.
"Certainly, Professor." Draco said. I quickly followed behind and listened in on their conversation.
"Draco, I swore to protect you. I made the unbreakable vow which is unbreakable for a reason. And it would do you well to memorize that fact as you and y/n will be making an unbreakable vow next week." Severus said.
"I don't need protection!" Draco argued. "I can handle myself."
"Maybe you can handle yourself, but when it comes to my niece, you need to promise me that you won't let any harm come to her." Severus said. "I'm trusting you, boy. And as you will be her husband soon, I really need you to step in to protect her from her father. I was unable to protect her from him when her mum died and I will always feel bad about that fact. Especially if the two of you have children. You don't know the half of what it's like to be related to the dark lord and if you two were to ever give birth to a child it is almost certain that child is in grave danger. Y/n knows this all too well."
"I understand that, sir. I was chosen! Out of all others, me." Draco said. "I won't let anything happen to her, but I still don't understand what happened between her and her father."
"That's not my story to tell. Y/n needs to be ready at her own time. It was a very traumatic time for her." Severus said and I felt my expression become guarded, "You can't be afraid, Draco. Though I know you are. You attempt to conceal it but it's obvious."
"Who cares if I am. Y/n's safety is all that matters. And I can protect her. I promise." Draco said.
"I'm counting on you. Y/n is the only person that matters to me anymore and I can't bear to see her suffer anymore than she already has." Severus said.
"I promise I'll give her a great life." Draco said. "You don't have to worry, sir."
"Good." Severus said. "Now, be careful and go back to the party. You'd better not stand up my niece."
"Yes, sir." Draco said, walking back over to which I acted as if I hadn't been standing there the whole time.
"Oh hey, Draco, what did my uncle have to talk to you about?" I asked.
"It's nothing. Just wanted to talk to me before the wedding." Draco lied. "Shall we go back in?" I nodded, and intertwined my fingers with his before we walked back into the party although I couldn't help but think about if I should tell Draco about my dark past.
Author's Note: Sorry guys, I know this chapter was pretty short. There are more coming, I promise, but I have to catch up on my math homework and prep for my video production class (I'm starting it three days late so I want to make sure I didn't miss anything) but hope y'all are doing okay! -Astoria Solace
