Khatri Estate

It was close to 3 AM.

The entire mansion was steeped in silence, the kind that only the deepest hours of the night could bring.

Trayaksh walked through the quiet halls, his silent footsteps trailing along the cold, tiled floor, each step so meticulously light, as if he were walking on air, and not carrying a small figure in his arms.

The vastness of the mansion stretched out around him, every corner and corridor empty, just like he had expected. His family wouldn't return from the hotel until they had seen to it that every last guest was properly attended to and sent off—it was their culture.

He made his way to the wing of the mansion that had been designated as his own years ago. It was a part of the house that felt almost foreign to him now.

The last time he'd slept in that bedroom was back in school, and then for the short amount of time on their wedding night.

After he left for the States to pursue his studies, the room had remained untouched.

He built a life for himself abroad, becoming a lawyer and establishing a reputation that spoke for itself. It was only when he decided to start his own law firm that he returned to India. He could've easily set it up there, but he wanted his first firm to be here, in his own country.

Upon his return, he purchased a penthouse and chose to live there, despite his family's protests.

As he was working to establish his firm, his grandfather had approached him with a request that surprised everyone—he wanted Trayaksh to be the next face of their political party. His grandmother and the rest of the family fully expected him to refuse.

But, to their utter shock, he said yes, though he insisted on first setting his law firm.

And the rest, as they say, was history.

As Trayaksh walked through the dimly lit corridors, a servant spotted him and looked like he was about to ask if he needed anything, but Trayaksh, with a flick of his head, signaled him to stay silent and not disturb him.

The servant obediently stepped back, allowing him to pass without a word.

Entering the living area of his wing, Trayaksh moved into his bedroom.

Carefully, he laid Ananya down on the bed, his movements slow and gentle.

The moment her body sank into the mattress, she let out a soft sigh, her features relaxing slightly, though she shifted a bit, as if trying to find a more comfortable position.
