Khatri Estate
Ananya descended the grand staircase.
The sundress she wore was modest and ended just above her knees, it was one of the gifts that Trayaksh had brought for her that she received from Jhilmil. It was a stunning creation and hugged her figure perfectly, its fragile design making her look absolutely exquisite.
Vani had found the dress in Ananya's closet, and excited by the discovery, had insisted she wear it. The matching bracelet and earrings, were also from him, which added a touch of radiance to her ensemble.
Despite her initial reluctance, Vani's enthusiasm was pressing. The moment Ananya donned the dress along with the accessories and heard Vani's gasp and gushing, she couldn't bring herself to take it off.
And why should she? Weren't they gifts? Which meant it belonged to her? So what if it was given by that Danav of her husband? She could stay mad at him while wearing all these. Hmph.
As she reached the bottom of the stairs, her gaze swept around the foyer, searching for her cheery sister-in-law.
They were going for a movie.
To her surprise, Saket was the only one waiting. He was casually dressed in a white tee and dark jeans, engrossed in his phone.
Ananya approached him and inquired, "Where's Vani?"
Saket looked up from his phone, offering her a warm smile. "She left. One of her friends needed her help with something. She'll join us there. By the way, you look beautiful, bhabi."
Her lips curved into a grateful smile. "Thank you."
Saket saw her smile and realized he was the first to give her one. He was suddenly reminded of his elder brother's withering glare from earlier and a shiver ran down his spine in fear.
He quickly flattened his lips, swallowing nervously. He needed to work on smiling less, it seemed.
"Let's go," He said, breaking the brief silence.
Ananya nodded in agreement, and they made their way out.
Five minutes later, a convoy of five to six cars sped through the gigantic gates of the Khatri estate, disappearing into the city beyond.
As they drove through the bustling streets, she noticed Saket's tense demeanor and said, "You seem tense."
"Me? Arey nahi," Saket responded quickly, his tone a bit too forced. "I was just thinking about some work." In reality, he was already mentally preparing himself for the work he had to handle once he left for New York. The thought crossed his mind that what if he asked Ananya for help, he had a feeling she'd agree, and his elder brother would likely not reject her request.
