Chapter Twelve - The Weekend we didn't Expect
Preparations (Hojin : Seokjin : Minjae)
“Dad, stop panicking! It’s just a few people, and they’re all good friends. No one’s going to care that the towels aren’t folded into some fancy swan shape,” Seokjin said, trying to reassure his Omega father, Minjae, who was frantically running around the house, fussing over every detail. Seokjin’s friends were coming over for the weekend, and Minjae was in full host mode, worried about everything being perfect.
Minjae paused in the middle of rearranging the already impeccably arranged cushions on the couch, turning to Seokjin with wide, worried eyes. “But what if they do care, baby? What if they think we’re unprepared? Or worse, that we don’t care enough to make them feel welcome?”
Seokjin suppressed a groan, knowing that once his dad got into this state, there was no calming him down. “We are not running a fucking resort, Dad,” Seokjin added, watching as his dad fretted over the arrangement of towels and the selection of bath bombs. The guest list was small…just Taehyung, Jimin, and their boyfriend Hoseok. Taehyung was practically family already, and Seokjin knew Jimin and Hoseok wouldn’t care about such trivial details. They were down-to-earth, humble people who wouldn’t bat an eye if the bath bombs weren’t the right scent or if the towels were just towels.
Minjae’s eyes narrowed slightly at the language, but he was too caught up in his own thoughts to scold Seokjin. “But what if they want to take a relaxing bath after the long drive? What if the bath bombs aren’t to their liking? Maybe I should run out and get a few more options, just in case.”
Seokjin’s eyes widened in alarm. “Dad, no one is going to be taking a bath! They’re just coming to hang out, have some food, and relax. Please, for the love of all that is luna, stop worrying about bath bombs!”
Minjae sighed, still unconvinced, but he reluctantly put down the box of bath bombs he’d been holding. “I just want everything to be perfect,” he murmured, almost to himself.
Seokjin softened, stepping forward to gently take the box from his dad’s hands. “Everything’s going to be perfect because you’re here, and you care. That’s all that matters to them, I promise.”
As Minjae finally started to calm down, Seokjin felt a small surge of victory. But just as he thought he’d managed to defuse the situation, a familiar voice rang out from the doorway.
“Seokjin-ah, watch your language,” Hojin, Seokjin’s Alpha father, chided as he walked into the room, arms crossed over his chest in that all-too-familiar authoritative stance. “And especially mind your tone with your dad. I’ve noticed you’ve been swearing more since you started university. It’s like you’re turning into a different person”
Seokjin resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “Here he goes,” he muttered under his breath, bracing himself for what was becoming a familiar routine. Seokjin had come home early from the dorm on Thursday evening, taking Friday off to spend some extra time with his parents before his friends arrived. Ever since he returned home from the dorms, his father, Hojin, had found a way to criticize almost everything he did. Whether it was his choice of food or the language he used, it all came back to one thing: university. Hojin seemed to blame the school for every little thing, a silent but clear message that he wished Seokjin would quit and stay home instead. If Seokjin was late for dinner, it was the university's fault. When he didn’t want to eat cucumber salad last night, the university was to blame.
It wasn’t that Seokjin hadn’t sworn before…he had, plenty of times, and it had never been a problem. But now, even his choice of words was under scrutiny. Seokjin knew what was really going on, though. His parents were having a hard time dealing with him being away, and this was their way of showing it. As annoying as it was, he found it almost endearing, if not a little amusing.
