The bar was the dirtiest, stuffiest, darkest place she'd ever drank beer in. Her lip curled at anyone who drunkenly stumbled too close to her. For safety measures, she placed a dagger on the wooden counter next to her mug. It did its job since no one had any stupid ideas about approaching her.

     No one except him.

He sat on the bar stool next to her with a satisfied grunt. She didn't turn to look at him even as he removed his fedora and ran a scarred hand through his slicked-back hair.

"You seem to be in a grim mood, darling," he noted casually.

Her jaw flinched. She reminded herself not to snap. Too many things hung on the line for her to fuck it all up with her temper.

"I'm not a huge fan of this bar," she squeezed out instead. "It's dirty."

The man chuckled, gesturing to the barman before leaning closer to her.

"But we're used to the dirt, aren't we?"

She slowly turned to meet his eyes. They were the same shade of grey as those of a man she loved, but their coldness made them unrecognizable. Foreign. It made her stomach turn. She snarled at him with disgust.

"Just tell me what the fuck you want me to do," she hissed, averting her gaze to the mug in her hands. She couldn't stand looking at those eyes.

Kenny Ackerman smiled a ruthless smile that made Reinae's blood chill in her veins.

"How about you tell me exactly how you plan on breaking my nephew's heart?"
