—     Rowan sat on the couch, unsure of what to do next. The house was too quiet, the kind of silence that made everything feel heavier. She sighed, sinking deeper into the cushions, trying to push away the overwhelming emotions that were starting to could her mind. She had told herself that if Five ever came back, she would know exactly what to say, what to do.

That had been a lie.

The sound of soft footsteps pulled her from her thoughts. She looked up to see the boy— or man, she supposed— enter the room. He was now dressed in his old school uniform, with it probably being the only clothes that fit him, much like her. He walked in with his hands stuffed in his pockets, eyes scanning the room before landing on the large portrait on the wall. He stood there, his gaze fixed on the image of his younger self, his expression unreadable.

Rowan felt a tightness in her chest, the kind that made it hard to breathe. She wanted to say something, anything, to break the silence, but the words stuck in her throat. Finally, she managed a small, shaky laugh.

"Long time no see, huh?"

Five's lips twitched slightly, almost forming a smile, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Yeah... you could say that," he replied, his voice soft and distant, like he was speaking to someone far away.

Rowan watched him closely, noticing how his shoulders seemed to carry a weight far too heavy. "It's... weird, right?" she asked, trying to find the right words. "Seeing yourself like that. Knowing how much has changed."

Five nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving from their spot above the fireplace. "It's like looking at a stranger," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. After a moment, he glanced over Rowan. "Same for you, huh?"

She hesitated, then shook her head. "Not really," she spoke softly. "My body... it never actually aged. Mentally, I grew up with everyone else, but physically... I stayed the same. I've been... here, in a way, the whole time."

Five's gaze lingered on her, searching her face as if trying to see the years that had passed in her eyes. "Must've been... strange," he spoke instead, his tone more guarded now as if he were pulling back, rebuilding walls right in front of her eyes.
