As the three of them approached the massive portraits, their footsteps slowed as they took in the grandeur of the scene before them. Towering above them were the ornate frames, each containing the image of a wizard or witch from a time long past. However, it was the central portrait that immediately drew their attention—a tall, imposing man with sharp features, dressed in robes that hinted at an era long gone. His eyes, filled with a knowing wisdom, regarded them with a mixture of curiosity and calm scrutiny.

Sebastian and Ominis exchanged a brief glance, both feeling the weight of the figure's gaze. It was Percival Rackham, the leader of the Keepers, and a wizard who, like Mary, had possessed the rare ability to see and control ancient magic.

Rackham's expression was composed, though his brow arched slightly as he observed the group. "Ah, Miss Aetheris Lumina," he said, his voice carrying the weight of ancient wisdom. "It has been some time since I last saw you with Professor Fig. I see you have brought two new faces with you today."

His eyes, though calm, held a piercing quality as he scrutinized Sebastian and Ominis. He observed them with a sense of cautious interest, taking in their demeanor and the nature of their visit. Though his gaze was assessing, it was devoid of judgment, reflecting his careful and deliberate nature.

"Welcome to the Chamber," he continued. "I trust you are here with good intentions, for the path you are about to tread is fraught with significance."

Mary stepped forward, standing tall despite the nervous flutter in her chest.

"Professor Rackham, these are my closest friends, Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt," she introduced them with respect. "They've been by my side through much of this journey, and I couldn't keep this secret from them any longer. They deserved to know the truth."

Rackham's eyes flicked to each of the boys in turn. His gaze lingered on Ominis first, then shifted to Sebastian. There was no harsh judgment in his eyes, but a contemplative look as he assessed their character.

Sebastian stepped forward, determination in his voice. "We're here to help Mary on her journey. Whatever she needs, we'll support her."

Percival Rackham's gaze grew more intense, his eyes narrowing slightly as he assessed the sincerity in Sebastian's words. "You may offer your assistance in the surface matters," he said carefully, "but understand, that the trials ahead can only be completed by Mary herself. No one else."

Mary quickly interjected, her voice firm and reassuring. "They are trustworthy, Professor Rackham. They've proven their loyalty and their dedication to my cause."

Sebastian, ever confident, stepped closer, meeting Rackham's gaze with determination. "We're here to help Mary in any way we can, sir. Whatever she's facing, she doesn't have to face it alone."

Ominis nodded in agreement, his voice firm yet respectful. "We understand the gravity of what she's involved in, and we intend to support her, no matter the cost."

Rackham's expression softened slightly, a faint hint of approval in his eyes. "Loyalty and courage are admirable traits," he acknowledged, "but this is no ordinary challenge. The ancient magic Mary possesses is a powerful force, one that few have ever truly understood. It is a burden that requires wisdom, restraint, and above all, purpose."

Mary glanced back at her friends, drawing strength from their presence. "I know the risks, Professor," she said earnestly. "But I also know that I can't do this alone. I trust them with my life, and I believe that together, we can speed up the process and be able to finish the trials before ranrok arrives to harvest more magic."

Rackham studied her for a moment longer before nodding slightly. "Very well," he conceded. "The Keepers chose you for a reason, Mary. You have proven your worth, time and time again. If you believe these two are worthy of sharing this journey with you, then they, too, must be prepared for the difficulties that lie ahead."

When the group had turned away from Professor Rackham to start walking to the exit, the Professor called Mary in for a somewhat private conversation.

Percival Rackham's gaze remained steady on Mary as he spoke, his tone carrying a warning laced with the wisdom of ages. " Miss Aetheris Lumina, it is not my intention to take your hopes and bring them down, but I want you to be cautious. Magic that promises great power can turn those closest to you against you. Be cautious, for not all who stand with you now will do so when truly tested."

Even at a distance, both boys could hear Professor Rackham's advice to Mary.

Sebastian felt a surge of anger rise within him at the implication, his fists clenching at his sides. How could this old portrait dare suggest they might betray her? Yet, he bit back his retort, holding his tongue out of respect for Mary.

Ominis, on the other hand, listened with a somber understanding, recognizing the truth in the Keeper's words. Magic, especially one as ancient and powerful as Mary's, had a way of revealing a person's true nature.

Mary, however, remained resolute. She met Rackham's gaze without wavering and responded with quiet conviction. "That won't happen. I trust them, Professor Rackham, and they trust me. We'll face whatever comes together."

Rackham's eyes softened slightly at her words, but the gravity of his warning remained. "I hope for your sake, Miss Aetheris Lumina, that your trust is well-placed."
