As soon as Sebastian emerged from the changing area, wrapped in a towel from the waist down, Ominis quickly excused himself, barely uttering a word before he headed off to change as well. His sudden departure left a lingering tension in the air, one that neither Mary nor Sebastian could quite ignore.
Sebastian noticed the quick exit, but his attention soon shifted to Mary, who was standing there in her towel, her gaze flickering between him and the floor. There was a brief silence, filled with the sound of water echoing in the grand bath chamber. It was almost as if both were waiting for the other to break the stillness.
Mary couldn't help but glance at Sebastian, her eyes betraying a mixture of curiosity and something deeper. Sebastian, noticing her lingering gaze, smirked, his confidence slowly returning after the awkwardness earlier.
"Taking something from the view?" he quipped, his tone light, though there was a subtle edge to his voice.
Mary's cheeks flushed instantly, and she quickly looked away, her heart racing. "I wasn't—! I mean, I didn't—!" she stammered, completely caught off guard by his teasing.
Sebastian chuckled softly, clearly enjoying her flustered reaction. "You don't have to deny it," he said, his voice playful but carrying a hint of something more. "I'm flattered, really."
Mary's embarrassment deepened, and she bit her lip, trying to regain her composure. "Oh, shut up, Sebastian," she muttered, crossing her arms over her chest, though the action only made her more aware of how exposed she felt. "I was just... I was just making sure you're decent, that's all."
"Sure you were," Sebastian replied with a mischievous grin. "But don't worry, I won't tell anyone you were staring."
Mary groaned softly, covering her face with her hands to hide her embarrassment. "You're impossible..."
Sebastian's laughter echoed lightly in the chamber, but beneath his amusement, there was an unspoken tension between them—one that neither seemed fully ready to address. As the moments passed, Mary found herself unable to shake the strange mix of feelings that bubbled within her: a blend of frustration, confusion, and something far more unsettling.
Meanwhile, as Ominis changed in the other room, he couldn't stop replaying Mary's soft admission in his mind. His heart pounded with the realization that her feelings might be more complicated than he had thought. But instead of feeling reassured, he found himself wondering if he was merely getting in the way of something that was already forming between her and Sebastian.
