"Hey mom, can I go out with Mel tonight?" I come down the stairs to find her in the kitchen.

"No, you're staying home with Charlie, remember?"

"Can't you find someone else?"

"Shae, I don't need to find someone else. She's your sister, I think you can survive a few hours alone with a 4 year old. Besides, your dad and I leave at 5:30. She'll only be awake for a couple of hours."

"Please?"

"No. I told you about this over a week ago. It's not my fault you forgot. Text Mel and explain you have to watch Char. Or do I need to?"

"Fine." I huff and stomp back up the stairs to my room. I text Mel that we can't go out. She's sad, but understands. My door busts open, making me jump and I look up from my phone to see Charlie in a princess costume.

"Shae?"

"Yes, Charlie?"

"Can you play princesses with me, please?" She gives me her puppy dog eyes.

"Of course. Can you give me like, 10 minutes? I just want to lay down for a little bit."

"Can I lay down too?"

"If you want to, sure. Come on." I wave her over and she sprints, jumping at the last second and nearly landing on me.

"How was that?" She asks excitedly.

"One of your best yet." I smile, making her laugh. She crawls over and lays down in her usual spot, which is just right on my chest. She says she remembers laying is this spot when she was a teeny tiny baby, but I think she's just seen the pictures.

"Shae-Shae?"

"Hm?"

"Are mama and daddy leaving me?"

"They're going out to dinner with some friends, but they'll be back by the time you wake up tomorrow. I'm gonna stay with you, is that okay?"

"Will you make popcorn and watch movies with me?"

"Don't I always?" I tickle her side and her giggles shake both our bodies.

"How many more minutes until princesses?" She looks up, chin on my chest, making me laugh.

"0 more minutes." In reality it's been 3 minutes tops since I said 10, but she's excited, so I give in.

"YAY! PRINCESSES TIME!" She jumps off me and yells, running down the hall to her room. I roll out of bed and follow her. "What princess you wanna be?"

"You pick for me."

"How 'bout Belle?" She hands me a plastic gold crown with a picture of Belle in the middle.

"Perfect. Thank you, bug."

I play along and do whatever she says because seeing her happy is one of the most important things in my life. We both change our princesses multiple times, which consists of me having to help her out of the dresses she so easily gets into. We're deep into our scene when a knock on the door interrupts us and we turn to see our parents.

"Still bummed Shae?" Mom teases.

"Nope." I stick my tongue out at her, which prompts Charlie to copy me.
