𝒫 𝓇 ℴ ℒ ℴ 𝑔 𝓊 ℯ

Weather. One of the many mysteries of Mother Nature, the nature of it is unpredictable, destructive, and beautiful. Kate and I always loved it, Mom always said 'The worse the weather, the happier the girls.' and she was right. However that was 5 years ago, before the accident that changed everything for us.

5 Years Ago..

Waking up to the honking of the van horn was not on my list of things this morning but low and behold the 'gift' Kate and I shared had struck again. So everyone loaded up and headed towards the storm, why? Kate and Praveens Science project that I honestly thought was a little dumb.

Disrupting tornado dynamics, or as Kate called it 'taming a tornado'. "Kate was right, southeast winds are picking up." Praveen said from beside me. "Yeah they are." Kate said smiling. "Its really building up." Me and Jeb said at the same time earning a snicker from myself. We continued driving till Addy started counting as thunder rumbled. "That's not a thing by the way." Praveen told her. "Let her have fun P." I jabbed him with my elbow as Kate's phone rang.

"Hey mom, what's up?" She said into the phone. I started looking at the sky completely zoning out before hearing 'Hey Mrs Carter' 'Miss you' from my friends. "She says there's barbecue at the house when we're done." Kate said looking at all of us. Looking at the sky as it rumbled I spoke silently to myself "Man I love Oklahoma.". I heard Javi over the radio, something about his sensors before Jen replied "Yeah coming right up.".

At this point I had zoned out just admiring the clouds and lighting as it crackled across the sky. I looked to my right laughing as addy stuck her head and phone out the window, snickering as Praveen tried to coax her back into the car. "Ever since you got struck by lightning you're no fun." She deadpanned. "That's what happens." He said earning a hun from the blonde beside me. "We should get the mixture ready." Kate told us, Jeb asked if we should wait till the rain started, 2 seconds later it started and he agreed with her. "She told you." I giggled.

As Jeb and Kate mixed and everyone else was doing their thing, I couldn't help but feel sick. I had always had a thing for 'the feel' as Kate called it. I felt sick and my gut started feeling twisted usually meant something bad was going to happen but I brushed it off not knowing that my feeling was right. Coming out of my thoughts I heard Kate. "-probably our last chase of the season. No matter what we gotta get these barrels in the air and see if they can make a tornado vanish, it's more important.". I laughed as Javi tried to reason with Kate about Dorothy and her amazing sensors that will help prove the 'taming a tornado' theory.

10 minutes later.

"Got a cape of 4000, 100 knots gate-to-gate wind shear aloft." Praveen stated looking at his computer. Kate and Praveen went back n forth on EF1s and 2s before Addy asked Javi about Dorothy's GPS. A bunch of debris got the car making us gasp and the car swerved slightly. "Are we in it?" I asked. "No. It's behind us." Kate said looking back which made us look back. "Should I drive faster?" Jeb asked. "We've got to drop the barrels in its path." Kate said looking at him. "Are we gonna see the path?" Praveen asked as a big price of something hit the windshield causing it to crack and the car swerved off the road turning the trailer over. Bickering back and forth as I watched all around us. "Stay here I'll get it." Kate said jumping out of the car the 4 of us close on her tail.

We started trying to push it but it wasn't any use. "We need leverage!" Jeb yelled running and getting a metal pole hooking it under the trailer and pushing it over. Jeb made a comment I couldn't hear causing Kate to laugh and kiss him, "Let's open them up." I yelled. "We're clear!" Praveen yelled as we both got into car. I still had that feeling, and it was getting worse the more the tornado got closer. "What if there's no tornado? What it's just a dense wave of hail?"  Addy questioned. Before long Javi came over the radio. "We just shot up 10000 feet!". Everyone cheered as Jeb spoke up. "We did it, Kate." but the wind never died down. It got harsher, the rain got harder, and everytime Javi came on the radio it went up another 10-20000 feet until.. "Sensors just shot up 70000 feet." He told us. "The nexrad velocity is 200 miles per hour." Praveen said. "Impossible." I let out a breath. "Unless it's an EF5." Kate realized.

"Whatever's in there, it's big  and moving fast! Drive!" Javi yelled over the radio. There was so much yelling before I knew it the car was in a fence off the road. "We can't stay here!" Jeb yelled as Praveen pointed out an overpass. Seconds went by before Jeb spoke up. "This cars gonna fly, come on!" We all rushed out of the car. We started crawling up the overpass before a piece of metal struck Kate's thigh and came hurdling towards me cutting my shoulder. Jeb reached for Kate as he and I had already made it up a good ways. I reached for Addy but she was too far and was swept away by a tree branch "Addy!!" Me and Kate yelled as Jeb pulled us up by the railing putting his body over us. "It's gonna be okay. Keep holding on guys, I've got you. I've got you!" And then he was gone.
