The early morning darkness still enveloped the city when Jimin was abruptly pulled from sleep by the shrill ring of his phone. It was 4:35 AM, and his body protested as he reached over to grab the phone from the nightstand, muscles aching from the long night before. He was exhausted, his limbs heavy and reluctant to move, but the sense of duty ingrained in him as an officer pushed him to answer the call.
His voice was rough and slow as he spoke, not wanting to disturb Yoongi, who was still sleeping soundly beside him.
"Officer Park speaking," he murmured, trying to keep his voice low.
As he listened to the voice on the other end, his eyes widened in surprise, his heart rate picking up. The news was unexpected and serious, filling him with a mix of curiosity and worry. He quickly sat up in bed, but just as he was about to move further, he realized he was still completely naked. He glanced over at Yoongi, who remained blissfully asleep, his face peaceful in the dim light of the room.
Moving quietly, Jimin reached for Yoongi's shirt that had been discarded the night before. He slipped it on, the fabric soft against his skin, and then pulled on a pair of baggy pants, all the while trying to make as little noise as possible.
Just as he was finishing getting dressed, Yoongi's phone rang, startling both of them. Yoongi, still half-asleep, fumbled for the phone and answered it, his voice groggy. Jimin watched as Yoongi's expression shifted from confusion to shock, his eyes widening as he processed whatever was being said on the other end of the line.
When Yoongi hung up, their eyes met, both of them now fully awake and aware that something serious was happening. "What is it?" Yoongi asked, his voice still laced with sleep but now tinged with concern.
Jimin, now more alert, quickly explained, "I got a call about an incident. Something serious. It's at the same location as before."
Yoongi nodded, his expression mirroring Jimin's concern. "I just got a call from the hospital. They need me there too... It sounds like it's connected."
They both realized at that moment that whatever had happened was likely tied to the previous cases they had been dealing with. The realization brought a sense of urgency to their movements as they quickly gathered their things, ready to head out.
Jimin gave Yoongi a quick look, the earlier tenderness of the night still lingering in his gaze despite the seriousness of the situation. "Let's go," he said, determination and worry mixing in his tone.
Yoongi nodded, already grabbing his own clothes. They both knew that the peaceful, intimate night they had just shared was now a distant memory, replaced by the demands of their responsibilities. But even as they prepared to face whatever awaited them, there was an unspoken understanding between them—no matter what, they were in this together.
They left the apartment side by side, ready to face whatever the morning would bring.
---
Jimin and Yoongi arrived at the scene, the first light of dawn just beginning to creep over the horizon. The location was an upscale apartment building, the kind that usually exuded a sense of security and tranquility. But today, it was swarmed by police officers, forensics teams, and curious onlookers, all drawn by the gravity of what had occurred.
Jimin's mind raced as he stepped out of the car, Yoongi following closely behind. The grim determination on their faces was reflected in the serious expressions of the officers on the scene.
"Officer Park, Doctor Min, this way," an officer guided them through the crowd and up to the apartment.
The hallway was eerily quiet despite the commotion outside. Blood had seeped out from underneath the door, a dark, ominous pool that had begun to dry around the edges. Jimin's heart pounded in his chest as he noted the size of the bloodstain, his mind calculating what it meant.
The door had already been forced open by the time they arrived. Inside, the apartment was neat, almost too neat, save for the horrific scene in the living room. The victim, a man in his mid-40s, lay slumped against the back of a chair, his head tilted unnaturally to the side. Blood soaked his shirt and the front of the chair, a large wound visible in his chest.
Jimin took a deep breath, trying to focus on the details. The man had been dead for hours, the blood coagulating in a way that suggested the murder had occurred in the early hours of the morning. Jimin's gaze drifted to the clock on the wall, which had stopped at 3:15 AM, likely a result of the struggle that had taken place.
Yoongi crouched beside the body, his face a mask of professional detachment as he examined the wound. "The stab wound is deep," he murmured, his voice barely audibles to anyone but Jimin. "Given the state of the body and the temperature in the room, I'd estimate the time of death between 2:30 to 3:45 AM."
Jimin's breath hitched slightly, his mind involuntarily flashing back to what he had been doing at that time. He caught Yoongi's eye, and there was a fleeting moment of understanding between them. They had been together during those hours, lost in each other, unaware of the tragedy unfolding elsewhere in the city.
Shaking the thought from his mind, Jimin forced himself to focus on the details of the scene. The victim had been a 45-year-old man, living alone in this upscale apartment. There were no immediate signs of forced entry, which suggested that the killer either knew the victim or was exceptionally skilled. The apartment itself offered little in the way of clues—everything was meticulously organized, the kind of cleanliness that hinted at either a very neat individual or someone who had cleaned up after themselves.
As Jimin continued to survey the room, Yoongi stood up, looking thoughtful. "I'll need to conduct a full autopsy to be sure, but I'd say the killer was precise—knew exactly what they were doing. It wasn't a random attack."
Jimin nodded, his mind already working through the possibilities. This case, like the others, had the markings of a professional. But something about it felt different, more personal. He could feel the tension in the air, a sense that they were close to something significant.
As they finished up at the scene, Jimin couldn't help but glance at Yoongi, who was already deep in conversation with one of the forensic officers. The memory of their shared night lingered in the back of his mind, intertwining with the gravity of the situation they now faced. It was a reminder of the delicate balance they walked—between their personal lives and the harsh reality of their work.
With the scene fully documented and the body ready to be transported, Jimin and Yoongi left the apartment. As they walked out, Jimin's phone buzzed with a new message. Glancing at it, he saw the update from the forensics team: the victim had been identified, and there is more immediate connection to the previous murders.
He steps to his office thinking the game he has to be played with the well-played murderer
