The large whiteboard in Jimin's office was covered with notes, red lines connecting photos, sketches, and a chaotic array of evidence that seemed to lead nowhere.

Jimin stood in front of it, arms crossed, as he listened to his fellow officers voice their frustrations.

"If we can't find this killer, we won't be on this job much longer," one of them muttered.

"How many times have we tried to pin him down?" another officer said, frustrated.

"He's always one step ahead."

"That's exactly the problem," came another voice, quieter but weighed with concern.

"Who is this guy? Does he live here? Is he in this city, or does he travel to and from just to wreak havoc?"

A sigh rippled through the room as Jimin finally turned to face them all.

"If we can't figure out who he is, then we have to understand why he's doing this. Maybe, just maybe, there's a pattern to these victims. We need every detail—about their private lives, their jobs, their families, and social circles."

Jimin's assistant nodded, making quick notes.

"I'll organize a team to gather as much as we can, sir. It might take a bit of time, though."

"Then let's get started," Jimin replied, his face set in grim determination.

------

Later, Jimin decided to walk home, leaving his car at the police station in hopes that the fresh air would clear his mind. The night was cool, with the city lights casting soft glows on the quiet streets. As he strolled, he became aware of footsteps behind him. They grew faster, drawing closer, until he could sense someone nearly upon him.

Instinct kicked in. Jimin spun around, grabbing the person's arm and sweeping their legs out from under them, sending them sprawling on the pavement. A smirk crossed his face as he looked down at the would-be attacker.

"You picked the wrong guy to mess with."

"Geez, Jimin!" came a familiar voice, followed by a playful groan.

"I was just trying to surprise you with a hug!"

"Yoongi?" Jimin's eyes widened as his boyfriend's face came into view.

"What are you doing sneaking up on me like that? I could have seriously hurt you!"

"Yeah, well, you did," Yoongi muttered, a mischievous grin tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"Is roughhousing your love language or something?"

Jimin laughed, offering his hand to pull Yoongi up. "You're the one acting like a thief in the night, sneaking up on me!" Yoongi pouted, rubbing his back.

"One day, Park Jimin, you're gonna be the death of me. Anyway, I called your office, and they said you'd left without your car. My shift was done, so I thought I'd catch up with you. Look what I got in return!"

Jimin chuckled, rolling his eyes. "I'm sorry, Yoongi. With everything going on in the city, I'm just on edge."

They began walking toward home together, falling into a comfortable silence. After a few minutes, Jimin spoke up, voice softer.

"It's been... hard to focus on anything else. This case is getting to me."

Yoongi reached out, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.

"We'll figure it out, Jimin. You will. I know you." Jimin nodded, grateful for Yoongi's steady presence.

-------

The next morning, the sunlight poured into their kitchen as Yoongi moved around, preparing coffee and sandwiches. Jimin came downstairs, rubbing his damp hair with a towel, looking a bit more at ease. As Yoongi spotted him, a smirk played on his lips.

"So... did you enjoy last night's thorough inspection, Officer Park?" Yoongi murmured, his voice low and teasing, a knowing look in his eyes.

Jimin's face went red, remembering the night they'd shared, and he quickly looked away, muttering,

"Keep it down, Yoongi."

Jimin blushed, a laugh escaping his lips. though he was cut off by a sudden news report on the TV. The two of them turned their heads, their smiles fading as the headline blared across the screen.

"BREAKING NEWS: ANOTHER BODY FOUND IN JANGMI ALLEY. THE VICTIM WAS DISCOVERED EARLY THIS MORNING BY A SHIFT WORKER. POLICE ARE WORKING TO IDENTIFY THE BODY."

"What the...?" Jimin set his coffee cup down, eyes fixed on the screen. He could feel the tension in his chest tightening with each word.

Yoongi watched his reaction carefully, face unreadable as he calmly took a sip of his coffee.

"Another one," he murmured, shaking his head. "That's... horrible."

For a moment, they stood close, gazing into each other's eyes. But even as Yoongi held Jimin in his arms, a dark glint flickered in his gaze—a hint of a secret hidden beneath layers of love and lies, one Jimin was still blissfully unaware of.
