The dropship landed with a bone-jarring thud, the violent rattling finally coming to an abrupt stop. For a moment, silence reigned, broken only by the sound of heavy breathing and the creaks of cooling metal. Nova kept her eyes shut, her heart still pounding in her chest, trying to process that they had actually made it.
When she finally summoned the courage to open her eyes, she found herself still wrapped tightly in the boy's arms. The warmth of his body against hers was comforting, grounding her in the reality of their situation. She looked up, meeting his gaze for the first time. His dark eyes, intense and full of concern, searched her face as if making sure she was really okay.
"You good?" he asked, his voice low and steady, his grip on her loosening just a bit.
Nova nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yeah... I'm okay."
He hesitated for a moment longer, his eyes locked on hers, before he finally released her completely, the tension in his body relaxing as he leaned back in his seat. Nova felt a strange mix of relief and loss as his warmth left her, but she pushed the feeling aside, reminding herself that she had more immediate concerns.
"Are they still breathing?"
Nova turned to look at Clarke, who asked the question. She was looking down to Finn, who was crouching down to the two boys, who had followed him getting out of their seats. Finn stayed silent. They were dead.
Nova's breath caught in her throat, once she realises...
She could have had the same fate if it wasn't for the unknown boy saving her. He saved her life.Around them, the other prisoners were beginning to stir, the initial shock of the landing wearing off as excitement and anxiety took over. A few voices rose in the cabin, urging to open the door, eager to step outside and see what awaited them on the other side.
"Open the door!" someone shouted, their voice laced with impatience.
Clarke, who had already unbuckled herself, stood up and faced the group, her expression serious. "We need to wait," she said, her voice cutting through the chatter. "The air could be toxic. We need to check the levels before we open it."
The tension in the dropship grew as Clarke's words sank in. The idea that they could have survived the landing , only to die from toxic air the moment they opened the door weighed heavily on everyone's minds. For a moment, no one moved, uncertainty freezing them in place.
After a moment, the boy who saved Nova stood up, his eyes flicking briefly to Clarke before settling on the door. "If the air's toxic, we are all dead anyway," he said, his tone defiant. He moved forward without hesitation, reaching for the manual release lever.
