Ochaco Uraraka had always dreamed of having a place she could call her own. After years of hard work and saving, she finally moved into a cozy, two-story house in a quiet suburban neighborhood. It was perfect—nestled at the end of a cul-de-sac, surrounded by towering trees, and close enough to the city to keep her connected to the hustle and bustle she loved. But the best part of her new home was the balcony, where she could sit and unwind after long days at work.
What she didn't expect was that her next-door neighbor would become the center of her world.
The first time Ochaco saw Katsuki Bakugou, she was struggling to carry a heavy box up the steps to her front door. She had just moved in and was determined to get everything unpacked before the day ended. The box was teetering in her arms, and just as she thought she was about to drop it, a strong hand reached out to steady it.
"Need some help?" came a gruff voice.
Startled, Ochaco looked up to see a tall, blonde man with intense red eyes standing beside her. He was dressed casually in a black t-shirt and jeans, his hair wild and spiky, as if he had just rolled out of bed. Despite his rough appearance, there was something about him that made Ochaco feel safe, like she could rely on him in a pinch.
"Uh, thanks," she stammered, caught off guard by how handsome he was. "I was just—"
"Struggling," he finished for her, smirking a little. Without waiting for her to agree, he took the box from her arms and easily carried it up the steps.
Ochaco followed him, feeling a bit embarrassed but grateful nonetheless. "I'm Ochaco, by the way. I just moved in."
"Katsuki," he replied simply, setting the box down inside her door. "I'm your neighbor."
"Oh! Nice to meet you," Ochaco said, trying to sound cheerful despite her nerves. "Thanks for the help."
Katsuki gave her a curt nod, then turned to leave. "No problem. If you need anything, I'm right next door."
With that, he walked back to his house, leaving Ochaco standing in her doorway, wondering if all her neighbors would be as unexpectedly helpful as him.
Over the next few weeks, Ochaco settled into her new home. She found herself spending a lot of time on her balcony, enjoying the quiet evenings and the cool breeze that rolled in from the nearby hills. It became her favorite spot, a place where she could escape from the stresses of work and the world outside.
And it wasn't long before she noticed that Katsuki spent a lot of time on his balcony too.
Their houses were so close that their balconies almost touched, separated only by a thin iron railing. At first, Ochaco wasn't sure if she should say anything to him when they were both outside. He seemed so absorbed in his own thoughts, leaning against the railing with a cigarette in hand, staring out at the sky as if he was searching for answers in the stars.
But one evening, as she sat with a cup of tea, enjoying the sunset, Katsuki spoke to her first.
"Nice night, huh?"
Ochaco glanced over at him, surprised by the sudden break in silence. "Yeah, it is. I love how peaceful it is here."
Katsuki nodded, exhaling a cloud of smoke. "It's one of the reasons I moved here. No one to bother you."
Ochaco smiled, sensing the underlying loneliness in his words. "Well, I'm sorry if I'm bothering you."
He looked at her, those sharp red eyes softening just a bit. "You're not."
