⌠⌠ERIC👑⌡⌡

The days were dragging on by the degrees; it was almost painful. I wanted nothing more than night to arrive. Kate and I had agreed to meet tomorrow, but the more we met, the more I was filled with dread afterward, as the time for her to leave was also drawing nigh.

She unfortunately had important matters to attend to, but somehow, the king had decided that my important matter was staying with Miss Somers.

A man was not required to live with the lady he was courting. In fact, it was protocol that Miss Somers and I only visited each other. Whatever intention he had could still be achieved without having to stay with the Hooleys. He must be trying to vex me.

Miss Somers kept proving herself incapable of speech or being around me. It was for the best; I could find out what I wanted to know in other ways.

I hadn't seen her, neither at breakfast nor dinner. Being allowed to sleep in was often a case of pampering, but with her, it was negligence. She would not harbor suicidal thoughts if she was pampered.

There were so many faces of her. It was difficult to understand who she was and know which face she presented. It could be intentional. Must be.

I rubbed my neck and sat up from my bed, walked to the window in the corner wall, and peered out.

But she didn't seem so complicated. Why do you think so?

I inhaled sharply and let out a deep exhale. Assumptions were not to be made just yet, but true, she did not seem complicated, so it should be easy to know exactly who she was and her true nature. I needed to exercise more patience.

A figure outside caught my eye. She was running into the woods with a backpack on and a lamp in her hand. She turned it off and placed it on the ground.

The girl turned after removing her backpack to inspect it.

I widened my eyes. Miss Somers? Why was she dressed in this manner? What was she doing?

Some ladies said she practiced infidelity. Leon's voice echoed in my mind. Was this the basis of that rumor? If that was the case, who......? Philip.

Was she going to keep begging?

She closed her bag and run, getting lost in the thicket of trees.

Definitely not. I will not let my name be sullied just for being affiliated with her. I walked out of the room.

She doesn't seem so complicated. Huh.

Sir Atkins' gaze met mine in the rearview mirror. I sighed."What is it?"

"I was wondering, sir, if we should go a little faster and perhaps pick Miss Somers up?"
